This week we need to design a frame of a cool glasses in 2 D and the arms in 3d, honestly I wanted to design one simple and cute. I got my inspiration from google and added my own touches.
to adjust and control the 3d files
to create skitch in 2d or 3d dimension
to adjust the 2d files
Plywood 3 mm.
For the 3D printing machine
PLA
The frame
First I open the fusion 360 and upload my inspiration photo as Canvas file:
I made the origin of my sketch be right in the mid of the design.
I used the spline " fit point" tool to mimic the design, only the half part of the eye glasses, I didn't close the circle.
then I made a line, so I can use the mirror tool to have two symmetric sides.
As it was mix of connected points so it is hard to make it fully defined and I used instead the fix tool to fix the design.
After that I added the extra shape using the spline tool also to be able to create like ears to my glasses and all of it was as a one dimension skitch. finally end my sketch to start to make it 3d design
I selected the solid tool to be able to extrude my glasses into 3 mm and also create a hole for the 3m screw by sketching circle with 3.3 mm diameter so I'll be able to merge the frame and arm together.
Finally I saved my file as a DXF file to be able to adjust it using the laser cad sowftware.
the frame length: 135 mm thickness:3mm
The Arm
First of all I wanted a simple arm for the cool eye glasses:
I started with the line tool and draw "L" shape from the origin with length 130 mm
then I made another line that have distance 3 mm from the first line with length 120 mm.
I used the line tool again to make the front of the arm and connect between the two lines forming the L shape.
finally I used the spline tool to make the end of the arm in the shape of arrow, to be friendly used.
I made sure that the shape is fully defined, and finished the skitch.
I select solid tool and select the shape and extrude it to 5 mm.
After forming the 3d shape, I create another skitch in the front side of the design, to be able to make the hole for the screw
I used the circle tool to make a circle with 3.4 mm diameter, then finish the skitch.
the last step was to extrude the circle to be cut with 5 mm.
I used the chamfer "2mm" where two surfaces meet and fillet "2mm" for the edges to make it rounded corner and smoother.
I export the file as stl, so I'll be able to open it using cura software.
Arm length: 150 mm thickness: 5mm
I export the file to the app, and start to select the parts that will be cut and the other for the engrave and for the test as a speed cut.
Cut speed cut
speed 100 power 40 speed 200 power 40
Engrave
Speed 200 power 50
I adjust the layer height to be 0.3 also the model to be printed vertically so no need to add support to save more time, and I made the infill 10% and to be lines so the total time for the printing will be around 25 minutes.
The first thing was how to create hole for the 3m screw at the model, so I watched a video through YouTube and overcame it by editing the skitch after the extrude and made two circle with 3.3 diameter and then extrude by -3 mm as cut.
there wasn't option to save the file as DXF, so I saved it as 3mf and upload it to the internet and convert it to DXF, but unfortunately wasn't open also with the laser cad, so I tried to save the skitch it self as a DXF but the extruder of the upper part showed as new body not join one as it was in the fusion 360, so I used the cut tool in laser cutter to cut the extra line that I don't need, it was very useful.
The hole in the arm for the screw, was really confusing for me as I stopped in this step to ask the instructor how to create another skitch in the vertical dimension to be able to adjust the hole of the screw in the arm with the frame of the glasses, so In the end I learnt the right steps :
to use the orbit tool , so I can select the right face to be able to create the skitch on it's side, and choose the right dimension to be able to draw the circle, then extrude it to 5 mm as cut.

The amazing tool that helped me to design one part of the glasses and mirror it, that really saved time and much effort.
I'm sure that one will help me in the future project to design accurate one and very symmetric also manage the time.
Also to be more flexible with a program first time to use and make such design was really super cool and challenging.
My final design, it may not that much cool eye glasses, but really I'm so proud for such experience from A to Z.
I learnt how to be inspired about something, then be able to make it by your self step by stepm and really that is super cool!!
