My Design is model of a pen and pencil holder mixed used for several uses ( notebook - some pins - mobile phone - rubber - stick notes )
I measured all items to Take it into consideration while drawing the model on fusion 360
Using Fusion 360 to design a 2D Sketch of the front face and 3D model of the side arms of glasses with.
Malky ML149
Plywood (3mm)
for 2D models
first, I start designing my holder, and think about items I will put in the holder
I choose pens, pencils, ruler, notebook, mobile, stick note, rubber and head phone, and write this dimensions in my note
now I'm ready to sketch my holder and settle on the idea
I opened fusion360 To implement the design
I saved my file with name "pen and pencil holder"
next, make new component for each side.
start drawing sketch inside the component
using 2-point rectangle to draw sides
give dimension for each edge refer to origin point
Side 1 ( back side )
side 3
edge side 1
Side 2
side 4 ( front side )
edge side 2
choose " project " from create list and select on sides edges to open it on face
draw circles to make hales for screw 3mm
Base
T-slot dimension
Add Rectangle pattern on sides to make it cool and special
using Rectangular pattern make squares with regular distances between them
check all sketches to make sure they are fully defined and make all extrude 3mm
making Detachable joints between outer sides and base with T-slot with screw and nuts technique
making Detachable joints between outer sides with corner slot technique
making Detachable joints between inner sides with Alignment tabs and slots technique
fillet all holder edges to make design smooth 5mm
assembly my model using " joint "
add 3M screw and nuts by loading from project list
put screw in hale by using "joint" select first on the head of screw and the circle of the hole and make same for nut
to get fine appearance, pick a material and drag on model
Design steps on Fusion 360
To fabricate the model, need to export all sides to DXF, using " save DXF for laser cutting " from create list, by select on sides
After export DXF files from FUSION 360, It's RDworks time to prepare my design for fabrication 💪
To prepare 2D model I made some steps
export the design file (DXF) form fusion 360
Open RD works software and import (DXF) files
Start to select lines and coloring it related to color function which related to design :-
red: for cutting
blue : for fast cutting
Put numbers for these colors
black : 40mm/s for speed - 45% for power
blue : 300mm/s for speed - 10% for power
5. Arrange the pieces next to each other and reduce the distances between them to save wood and avoid wastage
6. export the file to (AI) format to be prepared for laser cutting
open software "RD works" and import the file
check layers power / speed numbers
Measure the total cutting area to choose the appropriate wood sheet (because I will use the wood sheets used)
open the machine power and download the file with my name "Hazem1"
Open machine and press on file button and choose the file from screen of machine
put wood sheet on machine and stick it by using supports
Adjust laser nozzle and tie it well
press origin button to make start point for laser then press frame to Determine the cutting area
check laser power by press on pulse
close the machine cover , open Air hood and press "start"
i check my used sheets on machine by press " frame " to make frame area for my cutting to make sure it's enough
used sheet from week 1
used sheet from week 2
The last step : Assembling the model
Install sides through the joints, close corner slot then tabs
install the screws and nuts (using M3 screw) and fasten them with a screwdriver at T slot
Necessity is the mother of invention
while cutting step on machine, fab specialist advice me to check if sheet cut well or not before remove it, after I checked I discover that it wasn't well cut
I try cutting again the sheet by press on start again
My challenge this week was to save wooden sheets and minimize waste
first I put cutting parts near together on RD Works
second I try to use "used sheets" from week 1&2 tasks, so I put sheet first and check area for cutting parts by press on " frame"
some sheet wasn't enough, I remove some parts from RD works and download file again with new name, check the frame again and finally start cut
I learned how to apply my sketches, Ideas and designs from my brain, paper to software "fusion' and see my imagines how to be Real and applicable to be made and shown as physical parts
this week I toke green session which talked about : Using the QLCA framework to assess the environmental and social impacts of a product or idea across its life cycle (Birth, Life, Death).
and I learned how to reflect that on fab lab tools and materials, which will be easy to reflect on final project .
