This week's assignment was to design a small desk organiser to be produced fully using laser cutting (except for the brackets to be 3D printed if they are needed). I was ask AI photo generation to give me designs can, I make and also be simple.
I love the hexagonal shape how is make it simple and remember me with The Bee and their mindset to work day by day and be present at what they do and do it with love & all dedecation.
Fusion 360 to create the design
RDWorks for preparing the DXF file to be laser cut.
Plywood sheet to execute the frame design
M3 Screws & nuts
Based on the Ai model that I was inspired from, I started scaling down the dimensions and calculating how much space I need for each compartment (sticky notes, penils, etc. Since it's a desk organiser, Ialso want to make it more simple and remember me with slow down and rush or taking much job on my shoulders. drawing the sketch on one side, I extruded the sketch and made sure to create a new compartment with each panel added so that edits can be easier and more organised. I also had to be careful about adding slots and tabs and account for the 3mm for material thickness and joints.
I build the base than the side and extrude it twice, the front & back also extruded from same sketch.
I use many tools like trim, mirror, text, fillet.
I exporting all file as dxf to can open them at RDworks.
I initially had every part in a seperate file so I had to combine them together in one. Then I start by give the cutting and scan color for parts. After downloading my file and placing my plywood sheet on the bed, I activating the framing action on the machine and realised that the sheet with the current nesting distribution was not suitable and the laser would cut componenets outside the sheet's area. So I had to revise the file and redistribute the components and make them closer to each other. With the help of my instructor, Farida, I was able to successfully nest them in an area and distribution that would fit my sheet. I revised the speeds and powers for each functions before starting laser cutting. After it was cut, I started connecting the slots and tabs, closing the T slots with screws and nuts.
The laser cutting time was 3 mins with scaned names.

I face this time hard problem with T-slots and how laserwork will read it the problem was the two arms of the T-slot will cut, the cutting, so MY lab specialist was give me advaice to go to fusion trim this lines and export it again.
I am was try to to solve the pervious problem with laserworks throw delete after delete the point from the path with delete
,but it was success with some and faulier with other, There is hypotnies, I think on it but maybe write it later.
Just knowlegde by fusion360 and T-slots techneiqe, also RDworks
