I love the idea of make products to turn it real, our assignment this week was make a cool glasses. So I was think at first on some of my friends love cats & I think what if I make to them glasses there is cats on the frontframe to ware it as a sign to their love of cats. At least they can Ware it at places of Cats lovers meeting.
But unfournuitly, I find my self stack to make some things more art and organic than calculation design. So I change my Idea to what if we make a glasses for students at there graduated Carmoney to ware it with graduated cap & Robe.
Due I am at Cairo University, I make it for Cairo University. Also due to my love me & all engineers to go to MIT, I was add his name on my glasses to be from cairo university to MIT.
Ultimaker Cura for slicing the STL file
Prusa i3 Mk3 machine for printing
PLA filament for printing
RDworks for preparing the file to be laser cut.
Plywood sheet to execute the frame design
Fusion 360 to Design the frontframe and arms of glasses.
I start this assignment by search about the dimensions of the glasses, I was find many of dimentions but no one of the them full of dimentions. the second thing was which shape of glasses, when i was think about cat glasses i think i will make it as glasses of cat. But which one shape for graduated glass.
After I chosse one to do, I started with open fusion 360, I created a new file (saved as Glasses), then component for front frame & one for arms. Then I create sketchs at front frame component, Start from the orgin point to draw the outer frame with dimentions at the photo, I get from the internet, then I was going from outside to inside to draw sketch, after I finish the front frame basic, Iam going to the second sketch to draw the shape of the university, the third shape for word of Cairo University, then Mit word in sketch.
Then I create sketch at arms component, I draw it on the sketch of front view to make sure the hole for M3 is on his place.
I also use Mirror to simplify ands make my job easy and accurate, I was used fillet at some parts to make smooth corner.
Am also use DXF extension to export frontface as DXF.
This time doing some research on glasses in terms of proportions, dimensions and styles. I found this website and some others, that had very clear information on each aspect of eye glasses design like frame size, lens size, frame styles,... etc. I took a screenshot of the frame style closest to the one I want to achieve.
After slicing the temple arms on Cura, I went to check the machine and the specialist asked me to scrap the plastic leftovers from the bed and clean it using alcohol. I did that and placed the bed again in place. Next, I loaded the PLA filament (dark violet) to the machine. This time I remembered what I did the week before and did not require assistance. I transferred my file to the SD card while the machine nozzle and bed were heating. Afterwards, I inserted the SD card and started the printing process. After the temple arms were printed, I easily removed them as there were no supports or adhesion in the 3D printing process. Nevertheless, I had to use clippers to remove some excess plastic.
I think the best thing happen this time is be aware with bolts hole and how it will hard to remove support from it, so I ask my fab specialist how to except it from supports.
Then I headed to the laser machine and exhaust to turn them on. After checking that my lines were correct, the speeds and powers were accurate, and ran a simulation that showed no overlapping lines, I download the file onto the machine's computer. I placed my plywood sheet onto the machine's bed and made sure it was well secured. On the machine's screen, I selected my file, defined the point of origin, ensured that the frame was in a covering an appropriate area on the sheet, I closed the lid and started the process.

Defining sketch: It was very hard defined all the sketch, I was set and start to define every line then go to the last one until I make it, finally fully defined sketches.
Text on laser cut: After I cut the front frame on laser cutting machine, I discover the text was so weak, It will be better if it was more bold or just scan on the square background.
Bolts hole: I am happy to ask my fab specialist and take considerations of except holes for bolts from supports.
--but despite of this i find it is more hard to the bold throw the hole I think i will make it large next time with 0.1mm.
