Double check tolerance before printing
Don't support small holes when 3D printing
There are multiple things I want to exploit the assignments exploring:
play around with multiple colors in the same file with a single extruder
create links and movable parts
have the user interact with the design
And there we go, came the idea of a glasses that reflects the emotion of the person wearing it with two modes.
Fusion: CAD, from sketch to digital
RD: CAM for laser, setting cutting parameters for the machine
Ultimaker: CAM for 3D printer, slicing the .stl file
Laser cutter: cutting the frame
Prusa printer: printing the handles
Plywood sheets: creating the frame of the glasses
PLA filament: to be reshaped to make the handles
M3 screws and nuts: assemble the frame with the handle
Design preparation
Exporting the files
Frame sketch
Arm sketch
Extrusions
Final assembly
Added fillets to the handles of the glasses after extrusion
Preparing the file for laser cutting
Preparing the file for 3D printing
Frame post-processing
Handles post-processing
CHALLENGE!
Mariam saved me last minute by mentioning the dimensions and tolerances of the screws and nuts. We used a caliper to verify that and I adjusted the design.
It was my first time printing two colors with one extruder. A 10-secong GPT chat gave the exact process...
It was a challenge setting the tolerance between the hole for the screw and the edge. I asked Menna and she told me 2-3 mm will be sufficient.
Also, Mariam reminded me to leave a tolerance of 0.3 for the nut. It helped a lot in smooth assembly, and I didn't need to post process this part.
Having visualized the dimensions of links, I will build upon their design for my final project physics lab kit.
The best warm up so far in the diploma, despite our team's tower turning to be قرطاس طعمية accidently

Angry glasses 😡
