Pen holder
:: this week we are required to create a pen holder to function in our daily life using Fusion 360.
I had so many ideas to design, but I liked the features which added to the pen holder so I decided to make a long base that has two sides, one side for the pen holder and another I will add these features
I used Fusion 360 software to make a design that transferred to files we can fabricate in 3D printing and laser cutting
Cura software
to prepare a 3D model that prints
MK2 3D Printer (PRUSA 1)
The bracket would be fabricated through a 3D-printing machine
PLA filament
to prepare a model which cutting in wood and several materials
El Malky ML149 CO2 Laser Cutter
the pen holder would be fabricated through a laser-cutting machine
Plywood
design a base as the first part
As usuall, create new component and choose new sketch, then use a trigle tool to shape your deseign
you need 3 circles, one circle for scanning to integrate your plant, the other to make a hole for the charger wire, and the third for a screw M3 with a bracket
select all shapes without holes and extrude for 3 mm
design with a slot tool (second part)
don't forget to create a new component, and create a sketch for another rectangle (the rectangle is 185*250 mm) then make your slot
make 2 slots parallel each other like this, constrain it, then trim the shape
extrude fully defined shape
design t slot
define the center point in the second part to start drawing a t slot from here and constrain all central points
edit extrude and select t slot
in the first part, draw 2 small rectangles at the central point at 150 mm of length then cut them by extruding
design a pen holder
in a new component, start drawing a rectangle and make an x slot which is two rectangles involved (large, weight 6mm, length= the actual) (small, weight 3mm, length= the actual/2)
extrude like this
to make a 2 sides pen holder, draw a rectangle with an x slot (but it is in the opposite direction ) on one side and a different slot on the other side, and extrude. slot dimension, weight= 3mm, length-= the actual length/3
repeat this step
in the other sketch, draw two rectangles in this position in second part and extrude the cutting
design a mobile holder
measure your phone and sketch it, it is usually 170*90 mm
make a slot at the center of rectangle then extrude the inner shape except for the slot
:: discover: after fabrication, I discovered that it's not a good place to screw, you have to high-level the slot
make a circle between slots for a screw-in bracket
draw a stand of mobile that has a slot. slot dimension, weitght= the actual weight/3, lenght= 3mm.
make a place for mobile charged, and extrude the shape except this place
joint every component with a pairing component by selecting the edge from one component to attach to the edge of the other
save the design as DXF by selecting each component
:: Note: the next time you decide to make a bracket for this design, I do not recommend this type, use a 90-degree bracket
Laser cutting
open laser work
import your DXF files
edit parameters
if you want add text, choose the text tool
save it as rld file
operation steps:
optimize the origin point
choose the file you downloaded
try to frame your design in wood by pressing the frame button
when you are sure the framing and everything are fine, start cutting
3D printing
open your STL file in Cura software
select the perfect rotation
edit parameters of layer height, infill, and support
it takes 7 min
slice it and preview
save the file with the g.code extension
enter your SD card in the Prusa device
choose your file name by rolling the knob, then press on it to open your g.code file
choose the material, PLA 215/60
the device starts heating to reload the default temp
the screen presents 3 main points to check the progress of printing:
*Time *filament Grams *printed design percentage
after hours of fabrication and attaching all sides, I discovered that the bracket has an issue in printing, the lab specialist told me that it's a problem with the machine but now I found it's about to be cut off so I'll print it again
another challenge when the machine cut the second part with no space to attach with slot (which I drew in fusion but something happened and it's disappeared from the sketch at laser work), so I lost a piece in my design, maybe I'll stick it in the future.
I had the challenge to integrate a slot of a mobile stand in a mobile holder because of the screw but I tried to expand it, so it's not bad but not stable enough
