This week we are going to design and fabricate a glasses, the design would be mixed between fabricated using a Laser Cutter & fabricated using a 3D Printer.
This idea would help to implement new tools we learned during this week.
My inspired came from my imagination to design glasses but the dimensions from google search.
I used Fusion 360 to create the design for both Laser Cutter & fabricated using a 3D Printer.
I would use the Laser cutter for the front side and 3D for the arms.
The front side would use wood but the arms would use PLA material.

Software : Ultimaker Cura .
Machine : PRUSA i3 MK3 3D Printer
Material: PLA+
-laser cutting:-
Software: RDWorksV6.
Machine : El Malky ML1390 CO2 Laser Cutter.
Material: Plywood sheet 0.3*30*50 cm.
The preparation process started to create sketch on paper using pensile then searching about dimensions on google then open fusion 360 to create sketch for the design of glasses.
I used fusion 360 tools to create the sketch for front side of glasses by using rectangles , oval , arch and lines to be fully defined with dimensions. also for arms sides, I used rectangles and excute to create 3D design and mirror option to have both arm sides.
finally i used laser work software to prepare the front side for laser cutter and ultimate cura to prepare arms side design as G-code.
Going to create the arms, I created sketch to draw rectangle for arm and square for arm screw then arc to create the arm curve then I did mirror to create similar shape of original one.
Next step I create extrude for the arm rectangle & square and revolve for the arm curve with fillet feature to make the arms with nice shape rounded.
the screw place created by do hole in the square for M3 screw.
Finally i used Plastics material on fusion 360 to give the part plastic appearance.
I used Laser cutting and 3D printing machines:-
A- Laser cutting machine
1- Import DXF file on the laser work software.
2- remove not needed lines.
3-identify the cut and scan parameters.
4-do simulations to see the way that machine will perform.
5- download the file to the laser machine after turn machine on.
6-ideintfy the origin point on the wood sheet.
7- choose the file from the machine memory.
8- press the frame to see the size of cutting on the wood sheet.
9- press enter to start the machine process.
B- 3D printing machine
1- Import stl file to the Ultimaker-Cura software.
2- Check the 3d object overall.
3-identify the printing & fill in & brim parameters.
4-do simulations to see the way that machine will perform.
5- save the file as G-code with the name of body, Material, grams, time.
6-download the stl file on the machine memory.
7- change the filament material if needed.
8- choose the file to print.
9- press enter to start the machine process.
i faced a problem with the glasses frame because i wanted to do scan inside the glasses and cut the body itself, but the problem was i can not do both of them on the same object so the lab specialist helped me to generate idea to do copy of the object as layer 1 and layer 2 and do scan for layer 1 and do cut for layer 2. the idea helped to implement the final cutting and scan well.
The skill of this week would help me to understand how can I change filament of the material on the machines and how to setup the laser machine.
