This week we were challenged to create a mixed material eye-wear. Actually this idea triggered me a lot as me in personal like the concept of "mixing" things, materials, and flavors together. While searching for the design, I cared more that it be trendy, cool and simple, minimal glasses design at the same time. So, I found the one and started working immediately.
One from my beloved concepts is the open source community, and Fusion has a really very good community on many platforms I used to live into..

I always ask people in this platforms to get inspired , and this is the way I was able to imagine my design of the eyewear. From discussions I wanted to design the eyewear to be like butterfly wings.
As much excited as the first week, went to our beloved lab to fabricate and print the project and so much exited for the results.
The machines
I used CNC laser cutting machine to cut the glasses frame. And I used 3d printer "Prusa i3 MK2" to print the glasses' arms.
The soft-wares
Of course, I used LaserWork and Cura to work on the DXF and STL files. More over I used my magical wand Fusion 360 to design the arms.
The materials
I used mdf, PLA and silver spray paint as materials for my product.
The glasses frame - Laser cut
Firstly, I took the dimensions using real glasses dimensions and also through search.
Secondly, using Fusion 360 to sketch the eye-wear frame design.
Thirdly, to make the design 3d I used extrude and extrude cut.
Fourthly, for the screw I made 3mm holes in the sides of the frame.
Finally, I extracted the file as DXF then imported it to Laser Works program.

The glasses' arms - 3D Printer
Firstly, I took the dimensions using real glasses dimensions and also through search.

Thirdly, to make the design 3d I used extrude and extrude cut.
Fourthly, for the screw I made 3.3 mm holes.
Finally, saved the file as STL to be ready for the 3d printer.

The glasses frame - Laser cut
At the begging I checked with the specialist the overall settings to make sure all is well.
Then went to the laser cutting machine to work on the glasses frame.
after adjusting the measurements, I chose the areas to be cut.
I adjusting parameters for the cut : properties of speed: 30, and power: 65.
I saved the file as .rd.
In the laser cutter, I prepared the machine for start working as I put the wooden sheet, placed the origin point and checked the focus and let it work.
Frame parameters: power 65, speed 30.

I started working on the glasses' arms with the 3D printer.
I imported the file to cura
Choosing the material and the printer
Adjusting rotation, profile, infill, time and weight
saving the file as gcode
I selected the black PLA for the printer and run it.
When I finished the glasses frame I brushed it with silver paint.

I am really happy with the results and decided to make it the first gift for my first coming child. XD
The problem was that the frame wasn't be cut at the first time and the specialist advised me that I should re-set the power and the speed as the power was not enough. the power was 60 and the speed was 30, so I increased the power to 65, so that the machine be able cut sufficiently. This is the only problem that I faced and the solution depended on the advice of the specialist simply :)

The 2nd photo after solving the problem as the machine cut it well
Before this wonderful diploma and at the begging of it, I imagined it's so complicated thing to create and implement highly integrated components, specially for my final project, but right now I trust that maker diploma will qualify my perfectly to understand any complicated thing that I need to finalize my final project <3
Actually, making this glasses from those mixed materials was the most interesting part for me. As I mentioned how I like the concept of mixing in many things in my life, and this time it was so much different. The new experience in "mixing concept" wasn't only the mixed materials, but it's even bigger as it's a totally new field to try this concept.
We were asked to make a cool and funny bookmark, applying the interesting concept of "mixing". Me and my team designed the bookmark using Fusion 360. Made the laser cut shape and the 3d printed head together. In this activity I found out something very important, that experiencing the "mixing concept" with friends is so much fun. XD
