I love the moon, so it inspired me to choose it in the final project, so I chose this week to fabricate it as a practice. I chose a model of a full moon as a moon lamb for 3 d printing, and a cat stands at a crescent moon looking at the stars.
I picked this free 2d laser cut from 3-axis
and this 3D printing from Thinkvers
I used Cura for slicing 3d printing design and lasercad for preparing parameters laser cutting design
Prusa i3 mk2 , 3d printing machine
white PLA filament
for 3d printing, I used Prusa i3 mk2 and white pla filament for Moon but I didn't find white so I used red pla filament for bloody moon
Laser cutting machine
Plywood sheet with laser cutting machine
Firstly I imported the stl file
I chose layer height 0.2 for high quality and best time
and infill 20% to be durable
and support on build plate because it was like a ball
First, I imported the dxf file
and adjust the scan &cut parts and make it simulate what it will be like
I adjust the cut in 60 power & 30 speed
and scan in 30 power &300 speed
Phases of the full moon😊🌝
3d printting process
for 3d printing process:
first, I didn't find a white pla filament so I picked the red one.
then I uploaded the gcode file on an sd card, then I put it in the machine.
Then I choose the file to print and let the machine do it
finally, here is my bloody moon , tadaaaaaa💁🏻♀️
for laser cutting process :
first , i checked the design on laser cad, then i connected the laser machine to the labtop.
i put the plywood and set the origin piont and made sure for the design dimentions.
then close the door of the machine and start and watch the process
and voalaaaaa there is my cat with the stars, but i added some of my art on it 😎😍
first in 3d project :
I adapted my 3d printing with 20% infill but during the 3d printing process I found it was empty inside
I opened the STL file again in Cura and sliced the model again and slide the vertical progress bar to go down in layers
and found the infill was in the walls of the design, there were outer wall and inner wall in the model as it was supposed to be a lamp so the infill goes between the walls not in the model
It was a good lesson for me and I learned to check the model before I slice it !
for the laser cutting project:
the lab machine doesn't work in rdworks it works with Laser cad, but I saved my laser design in ai extension as a spare.so, I opened it in Laser cad and made some changes, I add a speed cut for the crescent moon (speed, power).
, and the final result wasn't fully satisfactory to me so I add my touch and colored it.
"Thinker Cat & bloody moon"
I gained new experience in how to adapt designs and use machines.
and I'm looking to improve myself.
Using the machine myself is something exciting for me, as I enjoy watching the work progress gradually while I use the machine myself to assist in the work. This method adds a sense of enjoyment to the work, as I can enjoy watching the results that are obtained, while at the same time feeling proud that I have contributed to making this accomplishment😍✌
