Phone Holder from Wood
Parts of Phone Holder
This week’s assignment was to Design a model of a simple mobile phone holder that may rest on a flat surface (Table Top). Design the parts using Fusion 360 and fabricate it using Laser Cutting.
I start with Google search using the keywords: phone holder + laser cutting and I was looking for a simple design and i found this design from the site www.etsy.com because it Beautiful and well-made! I love how the pieces slide together and i will make some changes in the design. .
Software:
Program 1 :
I used Fusion 360 to design and assemble the parts of phone holder and make dxf files.
Program2 :
LaserWork v6
used for creating G-code file for laser cutting machine.

1- The first prototype :
I started with made cardboard prototype for the model and the required model should have T-slots , nuts and screws so i tried to make a shape close to the initial prototype.

Fusion 360
1- i started creating the front view sketch by making two rectangles ( 100*160 mm and 100*40mm ) from the origin point to be fully defined and make another rectangle ( 3.2*50 mm ) to be a slot
in the bottom rectangle I make 1 slot ( 3.2*10 mm) for tabs and mirrored it to be 4 slots and draw one circle (3.2mm) mirrored it to be 2 circuits for screws and and trim unwanted lines
fully defined front view
2- Sketched the bottom side by drawing rectangle ( 40*100mm) from the origin point and make slot and mirrored it to be 4 slots and make one circle (3.2 ) then mirrored it to be 2 circles.
make two slots ( 3.2*50 mm) to be assembled with other Parts.
fully defined bottom view
3- Sketched the face side by drawing rectangle ( 20*100mm) from the origin point and make slot (3.2*50) to be assembled with other Parts.
fully defined face view
4- Sketched the side by drawing rectangle ( 40*100mm) from the origin point
make 2 guiding tabs (3.2*25mm) by make one tab and mirrored it to be assembled with other Parts.
make 2 T-slot in the two sides to be assembled by screws and nuts .
make a line to divided the rectangle into two triangles then trim the bottom rectangle and unwanted lines.
make a copy of the all triangle to be the another side.
fully defined side view
5- sketched another part to be slider with long slot.

6- After extrude sketches in Fusion 360 and make the components i started to assemble the front and bottom.

10-Exported The sketches in (*.DXF) format. and save the file in f3d format.
11-open the laser work program and import the dxf files and edit it to fit in smaller area and Edit the face to make some gears and export the file in .rld format .

Steps :
1- Press two power switches to turn on the laser cut machine
2- Import my *.rld design to Laser Works program from a flash memory and Adjust speed 15 and power 70 for cut and Adjust speed 300 and power 25 for second layer to draw the lines in blue .
3- look for Preview to insure the design is fine and download the file to the machine and rename it (short name).
6-put a wood sheet and tip it to insure it in a good position.
7-Use the arrow keys to Move the machine head to the top-left corner of the machine and press Origin Button.
8- open my file by press arrow buttons and select memory file tab
9- select the name of my file
10-select Track Frame the machine moved like it’s cutting a rectangular piece of wood that can contain my design size but without emitting a laser.
11- select Working time preview to Calculate the estimated working time for my design and it will take 9 min 24 second
12- it take 9 min. and 14 second.
13- Close the Laser Cutter lid door. and select run to fabricate.
14- image for the machine working.
15- After Cutting : the parts was not cut well and we decide to duplicate the cutting process.
16- In the Laser work program we Remove the blue layer from the design.
17- Preview of the second cut process and download the file and cut the design one more time.
18- the parts begins to drop and the cutting completed .
19- image for the mobile holder after fabrication.
20- Assemble the front face and the bottom
21- Assemble the two sides with screws and nuts
22- Assemble the slide bar with the bottom to make the holder tilts at different angles.

We Participate in a group activity to practice sketching a Miniature Rocking Chair using Fusion 360 and Fabricate it using the Laser Cutter.
My group was me and mr. Ayman Mohamed
He sketched the Back and the base and i sketched the sides , after that we can't assemble the parts in fusion because we can't extrude the sketches in fusion 360 .
So to complete the activity he helped me to extract the files in dxf format and cut it by laser cut and assemble them physically and complete the rocking chair .
Thanks for him to the great effort and corporation .
We have a lot of mistakes to learn from it , the important one is to insure from the dimensions and assemble the parts in fusion before going to fabrication.
In EOweek Session
making a Miniature Rocking Chair using Fusion 360 and Fabricate it using the Laser Cutter
When attempting to extrude a sketch in Fusion 360, the feature does not allow
we extract the files in dxf files without assemble it in fusion 360 and When we cut the part we can not assemble them because there are a mistake in some diminutions.
Ms. Amany after the session sent me a message on slack to solve this problem :
( The Show Profile option is disabled when creating the sketch. To solve this problem, enable Show Profile as follows: Right-click on the affected sketch within the timeline or the browser tree. Select Edit sketch. Activate Show Profile and save the change. Activate Show Points to verify if any profile is open. Extrude the sketch profile )
this solve the problem and i now can extrude the sketches and complete the assignment.
thanks a lot for Ms. Amany for her great help.

The Problem
The Solution
I'll use fusion 360 program to design the body of my final project and cut with the laser cutting machine.
When i trained on design with fusion 360 I design a gear for the first time and i love the technics of ( mirror and Circular pattern ) it was amazing and helped me a lot.
in Midweek Session
: Sketch a Fidget Spinner using Fusion 360.
i have a problem in my internet connection so i can not see the presentation so Ms. Amany asked me to design the spinner and send the sketch by slack.
I design the spinner and try many tools ( circular pattern, constraints, and polygons) to complete the sketch .
