Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
My idea is to make a mobile holder with the ability to be attached to the laptop screen to make it a side screen also, it can be used on the desk as a simple mobile holder .
fusion 360 for make my design
I started sketching the idea and developing the idea step by step, I sketch an L shape to be fixed at the top of the laptop & find the approximated dimension for the thickness of the laptop and dim of the L shape,
Then the second part was the mobile holder itself, I make it with 2 wings on the sides as when it is placed on to it will be fixed
the third part was to connect both of 2st and 2nd parts with each other
then I start to look for how to make a hinged joint to make the holder fold vertical ( as a desk mobile holder) and horizontal (as a laptop mobile holder)
Then I started to search for mobile holder dimension and put it on the sketch
I start with the back of the mobile holder and used screws and slots for fixing with the wings and on the top, i made as l lock to make it stand in vertical position without moving
I design the 2 wings where the mobile will lay when it is placed on the top of the laptop in a horizontal position
The base holder for mobile and between that one and the copied one space for charger
The part responsible for the revolve of the mobile holder to be n vertical or horizontal position
The back of the holder with multiple of stages
Note: I make the last one to fix it with a lock to make sure it is fixed in a vertical position
The stages part
The part responsible for revolving the stages part
The part which will be put on the top of the holder to work as a lock to make sure it is fixed in a vertical position
L shape for a laptop with horizontal slots for the part for laptop thickness and vertical slots for the hinged part
The horizontal thickness part with a thickness 5mm
Note l wanted to make a t slot to make sure it is fixed but the thickness of the laptop is 5cm and the t slot is wider than that
The back of L shape for a laptop with horizontal slots for the part for laptop thickness
The engrave pattern
The file ready to print DXF FILE
1st I exported the design on fusion to DXF file
I wanted a pattern on the mobile holder, so I searched on 3axis.com , I choose that pattern shape and downloaded it as a DXF file
2nd preparing the design:
I used the LaserCad software to prepare my design, make sure the scale is right & make it at the origin then I set up the settings as we learned in week 0
I started to collect the parts to reduce the wood consumed as much as I can
This design contains the cut and speed cut settings
3rd Settings:
Blue color: for engraving- speed: 300 - Power: 25
Black color: for cut - Speed: 20- Power: 70
I added my plot file to the Laser Cutter computer, I did make sure that the scale is ok and the power and speed for cutting are right, and downloaded the file to the machine.
For the machine control, I set the origin, checked the focus, and make sure the sheet will fit my design by choosing a box then I did a run order.
The vertical position works as a double screen for the laptop
Note: it can help in watching tutorials and working on the program all at once or watching a movie while doing work on a laptop
The horizontal position works as a double screen for the laptop
It also has different stages
I had a problem with the part connecting between the mobile holder and the laptop, I want to make the mobile holder flip in the horizontal and vertical directions, so I asked my instructor Ahmed Khaled and he mentioned ( key joint), then a google it and find a tutorial on youtube to how to make it the link youtu.be/vOdFlBdnbkw
I wanted to simulate the joint that revolves around it is axis so I searched how to do it on fusion then I learned about the revolute joint
This assignment helped me divide the design into different parts and how to assemble that different parts and learned the joints feature this thing will help me in my project as it contains more than one part I will use it to make sure the joints are working right and the final project is as I expected
Understanding the T-slot and tabs to connect the different parts
the coolest thing is the Joint feature in Fusion 360, It helped to simulate the design
learned how to make a wheelchair in the lab
