The assignment was to get and prepare open-source design files for digital fabrication using 3D printer and a Laser Cutter.
At the beginning I wanted to 3d print an oreo cookie for my fiance Abdulrahman as he's the oreo cookies' line leader, but the model was a bit complicated, so I decided to give him an oreo coaster indeed.
A cool friend for my laptop screen, i had once before called Semsem but it had broken, so i decided to make another friend to talk with.

Firstly, I searched for a dxf file for Oreo cookie, i couldn't find a free one. Then I found DWG verion, I transformed it into DXF using AutoCAD software.
After exporting the DXF from AutoCAD, I imported the file to RDWorks. After that i adjusted the layers' speed, colors, and power based on the machine guideline.
Finally, I checked the preview and time for fabrication and then, I exported a .rd file compatible with the Malky ML1930 laser Cutter. Now the file is ready for fabrication.
Firstly, I searched for a .stl file and choosed something then i downloaded it
After that, i opened the file on Ultimaker Cura, adjusted the scale, infill% and the printing profile. I tested the slice mode. The file didn't need support and i checked the adhesion box for a brim.
At the End, I exported a .gcode file compatible with the 3D Printer: PRUSA i3 MK2 after choosing the filament color at the lab. Now the file is ready for fabrication.
Start the machine.
Makes ure the chiller is open.
Copied .rd file from computer to the laser cutter using a flash memory.
Insert plywood sheet in the machine.
Close the door
Adjust the origin and then try the framing to make sure the design fits the plywood.
Start cutting.
Make sure the printing settings are adjusted with eng. Passant, the lab specialist
Printing temperature: 215c.
Build plate temperature 60c.
Speed 60 mm/s
Export and copy.gcode file from computer to the laser cutter using a memory card.
Insert the PLA filament with desired color.
Start the machine.
Start printing.
The oreo coaster was finished without the R letter, so we keep the plywood at its location and regenerate the machine to engrave the R.
Firstly, we oriented the R on the same location and deleted the rest of printed items, but the program oriented the origin above the R not in the same place it started with the first time, therefore it wouldn't be printed on its same place. So we tried another way, we kept the rest of items at the file but with output value (No) and only the R with (Yes) and this idea had worked.
After the laser cutter finished the R letter its line weight was a bit darker even we used the same settings (speed, power, layer color,.. ) as the first trial.
The reason for this issue most probably was that we used (delete overlap) command, so the R polyline became not closed even though it was seen on the file before printing.
Final result
Using the machines (3d printer and laser cutter) on my own for the first time, changing the 3d printer filament and making memories on this day with Esraa my lovely instructor, Passant the lab specialist and Alaa, my team-mate

Hands-on activity was SuperMakers Plan a Party! We as a G3-G4 team, decided to take furniture to Farnasha planet and pamper them.
