we had to design a model of more than one part one to fabricate it on the laser cutter and The parts must assemble together using screws and nuts
the designed model
this is the model I chose to make. it is very to design consisting of 3 parts ( 2 sides and top part ).
i chose this model because it is simple and has a symmetrical shape which attracted me
first: design
I made a free hand sketch with the dimensions i wanted for my design
then : I used fusion360 software to design for fabrication
for the last part :
the software used was laser work
the machine used is laser cutting machine (morn mt3050d )
the material used was plywood 3mm
laser cutting machine
plywood 3mm
fully defined of top sketch
fully defined of side sketch
i used fusion 360 to make a polygon
with height 74 and 27 and base 83.9
i added fillets in each of the sides to make it more smooth and to avoid scratches
for the third part (top):
a rectangle is made (135mmx72mm) then four little rectangles are made inside of it (3x15mm) and then two circles (3.2D) for the t-slots. fillets of 2 mm are then taken from the four sides
then extrude for the rectangle 3mm and extrude for the inside parts 3mm cut
t-slot is then made in the side part with dimensions given and then extruded 3mm
t solt
inside rectangles and tslot circle
extrusion :
I extruded the top and side parts (3mm). I did that by using the tool extrude then chose the body then chose the thickness (3 mm). I did that 3 times for the two side parts and top part
extrusion of side part
extrusion of top part
now, that is the final design consisting of 3 parts, two t slots and 4 guiding taps
i then took the sketches of the side and top then saved them as dxf (files are in the bottom of the page)
assembly :
the last part was the assembly part where we assembled the top rectangle with the side parts
I did that by using the function assemble then chose joint. I then selected the inside rectangle mid point to be assembled with the assigned part in the side part. I repeated the process for the other side. then all parts are assembled successfully
first I sent the RLD file to the flash card then inserted it to the computer and downloaded the file to the machine. then I specified the origin and checked the frame after adjusting the focus .
i used power 75 and speed 18 as shown in figure
these are the files ready for design
as shown in the figures, the file was succesfully fabricated and made its desired purpose (holding a mobile)
the first model that didnt fit
the second model fit successfully
one problem I faced was a dimension problem. I went to fabricate my design and after i done it I realized that my mobile will not fit in the holder. so I fixed the dimensions but wasted some plywood .
it was all because I didn't calculate the dimensions the right way. once the right dimensions are calculated the problem had been fixed
getting to know how to design 2.5D designs will surely help me in my final project
