I have searched for some shapes on google and found this shape on the left which I found useful .
I liked it and liked the shape of a half ball that we used in the last hands on . so I wanted to merge the two shapes together.
Ultimaker cure App
3D printer machine
Fusion App
I have used fusion App to design my project, then I have used Ultimaker cure App to put some features and view its timeline before operating the machine. Finally I used 3D printer to print my model through printing I have used orange PLA filament.
I used fusion APP to draw the parts of the design , then I used revolve , hole and extrude options Then I saved the STL file.
Base shape
I draw a square with 50 mm side to be the base of the shape.
ball shape
I draw a circle of 40 R. Then I trimmed it to be a quadrant.
Revolve and extrude
After I drew the base and ball I extruded the base to 10 mm and revolved the quadrant .
3rd skitch
I then made a new skitch on the top of the ball to draw small circles . I draw one circle and used circular pattern to complete the shape.
Using hole option
I used extrude to make the upper shape then used holing to make it empty inside.
Extrude cut
I used extrude cut for the rest circles to cut them inside the ball.
Done!
I have used plastic material and this exciting color.
The shape in Ultimate cure App
After I have saved the STL file of the hole project I then opened the Ultimaker App to set the supports to touching surfaces , layer height to 0.3 ,scale to 49.8 * 49.8 * 55.1 mm and infill to 5 % and gyroid shape. Then I send the gcode file to the 3D machine using SD card.
the first part of my project
After sending the file to the machine I found the black filament but I changed it to orange then started printing.
Making the ball part
Preparing to build the upper part
Making the upper part
We are about to finish :)
When I started to see the model on Ultimaker App I found that the hole shape is shelled and there is no infill :(.
My instructor told me to return to fusion and edit the shell I had made.
I couldn't use shell again because it will cause the same problem so I used "hole" button instead .
Top view
After the machine has done there were some strings . I used some of the fab-lab tools to remove them.
Side view
I was thinking of making some colors on the base but I didn't like the idea so I left it orange :) .
Actually , the holder can take more than 27 pens and pencils :0
When I saw this shape for the first time I thought I won't be able to do it on fusion but me and my colleague Marwa succeeded making it . :0
