Egyptian currency has three coin categories; the one pound, the Fifty cents, and the twenty-five cents. Collecting and counting these tiny coins sometimes became messy and time-consuming. So, I got the idea of building a smart box that can collect these coins, sort and dispense them in a more organized way
The box major parts are:
1- the body, which is separated into three chambers for each coin category from the inside. And on the outside, there is an LCD screen attached to it for displaying coins amount and buttons for controlling different features
3- the sorting part, which is located inside the box at the upper part, it performs the main functions of the box, which is distributing the coins in the box chambers. It is consists of a sliding arm ( that is attached to a linear rail with a stepper motor to control its movement) that moves the coin across different orifices that lead to the coin chambers, and according to the coin dimension, it will fall in the suitable orifice. (inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ILHtAPY29I)
4- the dispensing part, which is a disc that rotate to open and close each coin chamber and choose one coin to be dispensed at a time (inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5GADxTa1sA0
Construction Parts
the six sided box, sorting part, chambers walls, orifice narrowing parts for the photo interrupter sensors, and the dispensing discs
Input (Sensing and/or User)
dispensing button
4 photo interrupter sensors
numeric keypad for input the number of coins to be dispensed
weight sensor for each chamber to detect the number of coins when it reaches specific weight
4 photo interrupter sensors, for the chambers orifices and the main orifice of the device
Action
LCD display for displaying number of each coin and the total amount of money in the box
slider which have linear motion for distributing the coins in the chambers
4 servo motor for controlling the slider and the dispensing disc motions
red light when the coins hit specific weight and the chamber capacity is about to be full
Brain
Arduino UNO microcontroller for managing the input and output devices
Power Management
The device will contains an independent power source (a 5 volt battery)
Minimum Features: are the least amount of features that would demonstrate the coverage of all the technical modules and their complete integration
Complete Features: are the set of features that will complete your original project objective and vision
Nice-to-have Features: are the extra set of features that will make the project cooler, yet they need extra time, effort, and/or resources to finish

Task
Sub-Tasks
From:
To:
Develop the Sorting part
1- develop a CAD for it
3- fabricate the part using laser cutter
3- integrate the electronic parts (IR sensors and vibration motor) to it
4- write the code for the sensors and test the functionality of the sorting mechanism and modify its parameters until reaching the optimum performance
