Adventurer Richard Hannay, just returned from South Africa, is thoroughly bored with London life—until he is accosted by a mysterious American, who warns him of an assassination plot that could completely destabilize the fragile political balance of Europe. The 39 Steps is a famous Alfred Hitchcock spy thriller starring Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll, whose performances are lauded for their chemistry and charm.

Lenten Formation
My Companions in Christ,
As announced last Sunday, I will be leading the Formation activity during Lent. Appended below is the description of our Lenten study for this year. Please let me know if you will join me since the plan is for each participant to have his/her own copy of the “Will You?” booklet to be used.
There will be a Sign-Up sheet in the parish hall on the buffet to indicate your commitment and I look forward to walking with you as we journey together during this Lenten Season.
Thank you – Deacon Pat
Description
When we are initiated into the church with the water of baptism, we (or our sponsors) answer a series of questions called the Baptismal Covenant. The first three questions echo the words of our creeds, our beliefs about God and the church. The last five questions focus on action. They each begin with the words: "Will You?"
These "Will You" questions articulate how we are to animate our baptism, to follow Christ's example in our relationships with others, our communities, and the world. These questions move from a "gathering in" to a "sending out"—they are a call to embrace and practice evangelism by proclaiming the Good News of Christ in all we do and say.
This five-week Lenten small group study offers daily reflections, examples of evangelism in action, and an invitation to think in new ways about the promises we make to God, each other, and ourselves in baptism.

Singin' in the Rain
August 17th @ 6 PM
Don Lockwood is one of the most popular stars in 1920s
Hollywood. That is until his latest picture is endangered by the introduction of synchronized sound and the high-pitched voice of his costar Lina Lamont. To salvage his career, Don must utilize sound and turn his film into a musical. Released in 1952, Signin' in the Rain is an energetic musical-comedy directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donnen staring Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. Featuring unforgettable songs and perfect dancing, this film is perhaps the pinnacle of classic Hollywood musicals.

One night, ten-year-old Elliot Taylor is shocked to discover an alien stranded on our planet. After befriending the creature (dubbed E.T.) Elliott and his friends must work together to help the extra-terrestiral escape from government agents and "phone home." Released in 1982, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is an iconic science-fiction directed by Steven Spielberg with an Academy Award-winning score by John Williams. This engaging film, with breathtaking imagery and special effects, tells an unforgettable heartwarming story of a life-changing friendship that spans the stars.

This award is given in memory of Jeffrey T. Marshall who was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meriden CT. Nine months after graduation from Cheshire Academy in June, 1987, Jeffrey lost his four-year battle against cancer. The Award was established to capture the legacy Jeff left behind.
Jeff was a sensitive and thoughtful young man who faced adversity with remarkable courage and equanimity. Apparent to all was his invincible determination to live his life to the fullest. Throughout his ordeal, Jeff maintained a keen interest in his family and friends and their activities, and by example inspired them to better appreciate life’s value and opportunities.
Criteria for applications: Any student accepted at a post-secondary educational program who is part of St. Andrew’s Church family, and who has contributed in a meaningful manner to either St. Andrew’s Church, the local community, or his or her school may apply. A student may apply for the annual award a maximum of two times.
Procedure for applying: Applicants may apply by sending the application form to St. Andrews Church Office, 20 Catlin Street, Meriden, CT 06450. The applicant form will include requests for contact information, how the applicant is connected to St. Andrew’s Church, where they will be attending school and their future goal(s). In addition, they should explain how they believe that they exhibit the character, love for life, genuine concern for others, and other qualities that best exemplify Jeff’s life. This may include scholastic honors received, extra-curricular activities performed, and community volunteer work.

Dear friends,
This year, for those who wish to be part of a group devoted to Lenten Study, we will have two opportunities.
Deacon Pat will lead discussions on the Gospel lessons for Lent on Sundays following worship in the Guild Room. This group will last about an hour. It will meet on February 26 and March 5, 12, 19, and 26. All are welcome! No preparation necessary.
Father Mark will lead a "Home Group" that will meet Wednesdays from 6 pm until 7:30 during Lent starting on March 1. We will watch a short video followed by discussion. I've asked that refreshments be simple: pitchers of water, and "bring your own coffee," if you chose. This group will be meeting in the homes of two of our households: Beth and Leo, and Colleen and Vicki. Because of this, the group is limited in size to twelve people maximum, including the hosts and me, so you must sign up in order to attend. While no preparation is necessary, please sign up only if you believe you can make it to most or all of the meetings.
Sign up is first come, first served. Email me at rector@samct.org to confirm your participation.
With all my prayers for you to have a Holy Lent,
Fr Mark
The Annual Meeting will be Sunday, March 26th
following the 9 am worship service.
A free lecture at
Meriden Library (In Meriden Mall)
February 18, at 2.00 pm. by
Prof. Richard Benfield
In 1000 A.D., European churches were small, thick-walled, dark, and dreary. Less than 200 years later, they were breathtaking architectural wonders, rising more than 200 feet and lit by stained glass windows the size of tennis courts. In an illustrated tour from the first Gothic Cathedral in St Denis, Paris to the glorious cathedrals of Norwich, Ely, Durham, Chartres and, Monet's favorite, Rouen, Dr. Benfield will explain what happened to make this frenzy of church building so possible, so marked and so spectacular.
Remind is an educational tool that allows members to join groups and receive text message and email notifications. If you would like to receive messages about events, changes, or weather related cancellations, follow these directions to sign up!
Our next book will be Mere Christianity, by C. S. Lewis. This is a truly remarkable work. To buy this book on Amazon, click HERE. We'll begin on January 22nd.

Dear Friends,
If you've been able to attend worship in person over the last year, you have probably met Bishop Ozzy Mason and his wife Rosemary. They usually attend with us before their own church, Victorious House of Prayer, meets in St. Andrew's at 11 am.
Bishop Ozzy has invited us to join his congregation for lunch on January 22nd at noon in the Parish Hall for delicious Soul Food. (I'm a big fan of soul food. A BIG fan.) I hope you'll be able to be there! Bishop Ozzy and Rosemary are very special to our church and to me personally!
RSVP to the office (office@samct.org) so I can tell Bishop Ozzy how many of us are coming.
Blessings,
Fr. Mark

Dear Friends,
I'm excited about the book we'll be reading during Advent, The Divine Conspiracy: Rediscovering Our Hidden Life in God, by Dallas Willard. I thought it was absolutely wonderful when I first read it.
I promised you a meeting schedule of our Advent study book. For the first meeting, please read the Introduction and chapters 1 and 2. We'll begin on November 27 (1 Advent). We'll meet in the Guild Room starting about fifteen minutes after worship concludes. Here is a link to buy the book.
Please RSVP by clicking HERE if you intend to participate. As I said, you're welcome to jump in and out as your schedule dictates, but you'll probably find it most helpful to be at all the meetings, if you're able.

Dec. 4- Week 2- Chapters 3 and 4
Dec. 11- Week 3- Chapters 5 and 6
