Shortly after graduating from high school, Mark enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1985 until 1991. He was a crew member on the submarines USS Scamp and the USS Flying Fish during his four years plus of sea duty. After his honorable discharge from the service, he attended Haverford College outside Philadelphia. He earned a BA in History in 1995. Following college, he attended Yale Divinity School, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1998. Mark worked after this as a nursery school teacher and church youth minister until his ordination in 2001.
His wife of 20 years is Jessica. She is a psychotherapist. They have three daughters, one in college, one in high school, one in middle school. In addition to being the rector of St. Andrews’s Church, Mark is the Protestant Chaplain of the Connecticut State Firefighters Association, member of the Racial Reparations Task Force, and former member of the Standing Committee and Disciplinary Board of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut. Mark likes reading, cooking, playing rugby, and watching sports.
