Salt Creek 48 is committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all students. Our recent MAP scores demonstrate consistent improvement in reading and math, a testament to our dedicated staff and innovative programs. As we move forward, we will continue to offer a robust curriculum, coupled with a variety of extracurricular activities, to foster well-rounded individuals prepared for college, career, and life.
The Safe Schools | Secure Futures proposal enhances educational programs by creating grade-level centers that are aligned with student development and state standards for primary, intermediate, and middle school.
Reconfiguration would allow students to spend an additional year at the two primary schools, extending the time between transitions. Instructional materials and standards are designed for grades 6–8, and middle school teachers have different licensing requirements. Creating space for fifth grade at Swartz School will enhance the student experience, staff collaboration, and communication. Efficient use of resources, including people, learning spaces, and materials, can result in cost savings.
Reconfiguring existing spaces to improve supervision by providing clear sight lines and eliminating areas that could become hiding places. This will ensure that staff can easily observe students and create more usable space by allowing schools to once again use areas that are currently closed due to inadequate supervision.
The Albright Gym is outdated and was built for a different day and age. It is consistently overcrowded, and there is very little space beyond the boundary lines, making it difficult to keep our players and spectators safe.
We want to encourage our students to love to read! The library often serves as the heart of a school. Albright's library will be moved due to the secure vestibule. It is outdated, it also has problematic sight lines, and it is hard to accommodate large groups.
We have a fantastic array of specials, such as Art, Music, STEM, Library, and P.E., but the art space is outdated and needs renovation. The Art classroom will move downstairs so that all of the "specials" classrooms will be on the first floor.
There is a lack of instructional spaces at Salt Creek Primary. Renovating the ADA bathrooms and office entry sequence will require more square footage, which will overlap some already cramped spaces (see building map below). As you will see in the pictures below, many spaces below have to serve two or three purposes.
The original gym and locker rooms will be replaced to improve safety and supervision. This plan includes additional restrooms in the hallway for the when the gym is used after hours, and we can lock down the rest of the building.
The library will be relocated and renovated to make it a more user-friendly space. This provides an opportunity to modernize the space, improve sight lines for better supervision, and better meet the technology and learning needs of today’s students.
Building the new secure vestibule will allow us to divide the current art room into additional classroom space. By relocating the art classroom, all grade levels can be in the same area, and specials classrooms (Art, Music, Library, STEM) can be centralized on the first floor at Swartz. This will create additional space for student services support and small group instruction on the second floor.
Reconfiguring existing spaces for small-group instruction and interventions and adding classrooms for Music, Art, and STEM will enhance educational programming. Adding a multi-purpose conference room will improve staff collaboration and parent education/communication.
