"Marion County provides case management to children and adults who have developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities are a diverse group of severe chronic conditions that are due to mental and/or physical impairments. People with developmental disabilities have problems with major life activities such as language, mobility, learning, self-help, and independent living; however, they can live healthy lives.
Developmental disabilities begin anytime during development up to 22 years of age and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime. Our services include intake and eligibility determination, case management services, residential services, vocational services for adults, in-home services, transportation services for adults, crisis services, and referral to brokerage services for adults."

A Developmental Disability is a neurological condition that primarily affects the brain. It originates in childhood and significantly impacts adaptive behavior, or everyday living skills. Developmental disabilities may include Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy and other neurologically disabling conditions. Please contact the Intake Line for questions about other qualifying neurological conditions.
Conditions such as mental or emotional disorder, sensory impairment, substance abuse, personality disorder, learning disability, or ADHD are not considered qualifying developmental disability diagnoses that can be used to determine eligibility. For questions about qualifying conditions please call the DD Intake Line.
Eligibility is determined by gathering an applicant's developmental history and all historical documentation to determine if they meet requirements outlined in the Oregon Administrative Rules. (OAR 411-320-0020 – Definitions and OAR 411-320-0080 (1) (16).
Eligibility documentation for school-age children and adults is reviewed to determine if they meet either the intellectual disability criteria or other developmental disability criteria. Intellectual disability criteria is determined by scores on standardized IQ testing and adaptive behavior assessments; while eligibility for other developmental disabilities is determined by diagnostic information and scores on standardized adaptive behavior assessments. Be prepared to leave your contact information (phone and mailing address) along with any other information or questions you may have. Anyone can make a referral for individuals living in Marion County as long as the individual or their legal guardian has granted permission. Referrals can be made by calling the Marion County Developmental Disabilities Intake Line.

ABA Therapy
ABA or Applied Behavior Analysis is a behavioral science that researches the most effective ways to reduce or improve several behaviors including aggressing, communication, self stimulatory behaviors and more. ABA therapy uses approaches and intervention that is applied to everyday environments to help individuals.
What is ABA therapy?
ABA therapy programs are comprehensive and cover a variety of area in which a child needs to be successful. Skills are broken down into small steps. These steps can include language, behavioral, cognitive/academic, social, self-help/daily living, motor, and play and leisure skills. The overall goal is that the individual learns how to learn and adapt.
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy- CARD has two local offices in Salem. They are a nationwide service that provides ABA therapy. Here is their services page Services - Center for Autism and Related Disorders
Another ABA Therapy and service provider is Adventures with Autism - Aba Services - Keizer, Oregon | Adventures with Autism who offer similar services. Their office is located in Keizer.
