Working night shift security at Safeway was not Louie’s idea of a great time, but his mom needed help with the rent and now that he was 18 it was time for him to pitch in. It was just a few blocks from home, and it wasn’t like his nights were usually that busy anyway. When an opening came up he applied, and he started almost right away. Oddly enough, it was Halloween night.
“Just walk the aisles to make sure there are no problems, kid, and check out in the parking lot once in a while,” his boss said. “Nothing much happens around here. Bring a book or something to keep yourself entertained. You get one free soda per shift.”
Louie did not like reading much, but it was almost Halloween and he happened to see a book about vampires. He clocked in at 10 p.m. as the regular staff were heading out, found a comfortable place to sit in the cafe, then dug in to read up on blood-sucking monsters.
It was a pretty good book, but after a couple of hours Louie started to nod off. He had his one free soda already, and the caffeine wasn’t going to keep him awake all night. He decided to walk around the aisles like the boss said.
All of a sudden, he heard a strange voice coming from the Halloween display in the back of the store.
“Ivanasuckyourblood…”
What the heck? Louie got out his flashlight and went closer.
The pretend coffin (at least it was supposed to be pretend) burst open and a pale white vampire just like the ones from his book was standing right in front of him!
“You look delicious, young man,” the vampire said. “Come a little closer.”
Louie’s eyes widened and he froze where he stood. How was this possible? Yikes!
He remembered reading that garlic could ward off vampires, so Louie bolted for the produce aisle. The vampire was right behind him.
“Get away from me!” Louie shouted.
“Just one little taste,” the vampire replied.
Louie found the garlic and hurled clove after clove at the vampire. It kind of worked and the vampire reeled, but he did not slow down by much.
“That only works in the books, young man,” the vampire said.
Maybe Heaven could help him? Louie grabbed a plastic cross from the cards and gifts section. He wheeled around and held it, trembling, in the face of his aggressor.
“I’ve never been particularly religious,” the vampire stated, knocking the plastic cross down where it bounced upon the tile floor.
Louie was about to give up, but out of the corner of his eye he spotted a bottle labeled Sarah’s Secret Sauce. What was the secret? Could this work better than garlic? Was it a better option than the cross? Anything was worth a shot.
Just as the vampire was about to bite him, Louie pointed the bottle at his mouth and squeezed with all his might. The sauce went right in.
“AAARGH!” the vampire yelled.
The vampire paused.
“Actually, that tastes pretty good. What is that?”
“It’s called Sarah’s Secret Sauce,” Louie said. “Do you want some more? Does this mean that you won’t suck my blood?
The vampire took the bottle, scratched his chin, then took another swig.
“This just might be your lucky night,” the vampire said. “You are a saucy young man, and for now that sauce has saved your life. Happy Halloween.”
“Happy Halloween to you, too, sir,” Louie said. “Need a napkin?”

Ivan Cornejo is a great artist from Riverside, California. He was born on June 5, 2004. I'll be telling you about the start of his career.
He started by doing covers of regional Mexican music which he posted on platforms like Tik Tok, Instagram, and YouTube. He then reached out to his cousin Alejandro, and Alejandro started playing the bass. After a while, Alejandro asked his parents if he could move in with his cousin Ivan.
Ivan and Alejandro then started to make more covers and also their own music. Most of Ivan Cornejo's inspirations came from T3r Elemento, The Arctic Monkeys, and others. The first song he made was called Noche de Relajo and it was released on September 14, 2020.
Some popular songs include ”Perro Abandonado, Está Dañado, and La Curiosidad.” Ivan received a lot of good feedback for his album Dañado and he decided to tour.
The reason I like his music is because it is really related to something that I and other people have gone through. His song “ya te perdi” talks about how he lost someone. Most of his songs are made with thoughts about stages in life. Today Ivan Cornejo keeps making music and inspiring people. I hope you'll like his music

JAWS came out on June 20, 1975, so it has been 48 years since JAWS came out. It wasn't supposed to come out in summer. It was originally scheduled to come out near Christmas of 1974. It was directed by Steven Spielberg.
JAWS was based on a novel by Peter Benchley. The novel could have been called something else, but Peter Benchley decided on JAWS. The novel is based on a series of shark attacks from the New Jersey coast in 1916 and a New York fisherman who caught a 4,500 pound shark from the coast of Montauk in 1964. JAWS was the first summer blockbuster!
Some of the scenes in JAWS were from actual footage of sharks! The movie was supposed to be 65 days for filming but instead it took 159 days! The problem was the shark. It weighed 1.2 tons and measured 25 feet in length. Sometimes it wouldn’t work, and the weather was bad.
One of the reasons that I like JAWS is because of the music. It is called “JAWS- Main Title by John Williams”. Another reason that I like JAWS is because of the part where one of them says “you're going to need a bigger boat.”
Mr Hughey also likes JAWS, so I asked him some questions about this classic film.
Q: What is your favorite thing about JAWS?
A: JAWS is a great example of how to create suspense.
Q: If you could change anything about JAWS, then what would it be?
A: I would erase all of the sequels including JAWS 2, JAWS 3D, and JAWS THE REVENGE
Q: Who is your favorite character?:
A: Quint because he is gruff and grumpy.
Q: What is your favorite scene?
A: My favorite scene would be the part where they are telling jokes, and then it gets sad. They start singing to make themselves feel happy, then out of nowhere the shark bumps the boat.
Q: What are other movies would you recommend that people watch when they finish watching JAWS?
A: If you like JAWS, then you might like other movies directed by Steven Spielberg such as the Indiana Jones movies or Jurassic Park.
I give this movie 5 stars because I like sharks! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A true friend is like honey
golden and sweet
Like morning tea
Whom I’d like to meet
You’re a friend I never thought I could have
You’re the sun to my sunflower
We laugh and laugh
In our golden hour
Like birds we sing
Our happy melody
Cheerfully in spring
Blooms our chemistry
Daniel Caesar is worth checking out!
By Marisol Crespo
Ashton Dumar Norwill Simmonds, also known as Daniel Caesar, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. He was born on April 5, 1995 and he's from Scarborough, Toronto, Canada.
Daniel Caesar is the second eldest of four children to his mother Hollace and father Norwill Simmonds, a pastor and gospel singer. He released his first album as a high school student in Jamaica. Daniel Caesar attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and private school in Oshawa.
Daniel Caesar cites Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Beyoncé, and The Doors frontman Jim Morrison as musical and stylistic inspirations. His music draws from his childhood experiences and integrates them with R&B and electronics, while his lyrics explore subjects of religion, philosophy and unrequited love. In his music, he often references concepts of philosophy.
It all started for me in the summer of 2019. The first ever songs I heard from him were Best Part and H.E.R. I instantly fell in love with his music and started listening to his music ever since. My top favorite songs from him right now are Streetcar, Japanese Denim, Always, Superpowers, Valentina, Hold Me Down, and Take Me Away.
I like to listen to his music while drawing because it helps me focus more. I really like the beats in his songs. His songs make me feel calm and happy. Some of the times when I listen to his music are when I'm walking my dog, drawing, and when I'm out. I find his songs really catchy and most of his songs stand out to me because I relate to them.
Daniel Caesar is worth checking out. If you haven't checked out Daniel Caesar's music yet, you should. When you get right out of school or when you have time, check out one of his songs because trust me you will like his music, too.
Here are some of his top songs:

Nirvana is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, with the lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The band went through a lot of drummers. The most known among those drummers is Chad Channing, then Nirvana recruited Dave Grohl as their permanent drummer in 1990.
In 1988 to early 1989 they recorded their first cd “Bleach” released in June 15, 1989 (That's my birthday!) “Bleach” sold over 400,000 worldwide and now when you listen to “Bleach” I recommend first listening to “About A Girl.” This track is the third one in the cd of “Bleach” it starts off with a calming guitar tone and the drums come in slowly and calm. Kurt is singing in a good tone. Here is the link to the song About A Girl (Remastered) . If you listen to “Bleach” the first time you will not be disappointed!
And now we enter July 1991 where “Bleach” is coming to an end. It was going to be a big year for Nirvana with their new drummer Dave Grohl, who they hired in 1990. And in May to June 1991 they recorded their big hit “Nevermind.” The release date was September 24, 1991.
As for this great hit I have some great songs in my list. Most known is the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Official Music Video) But my favorite from this cd is a song called “Lithium.” It is mood-stabilizing really with bouncing guitar strums as Kurt sings his lines in a type of whispered manner. (I'm not going to give too much info about it, it's a bit more than that). Here is the link to the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkcJEvMcnEg . Trust me I like it and you might as well!
Anyway “Nevermind” sold over 30 million copies worldwide making it one of the best selling albums of all time and Kurt thought of “Nevermind” as a album that was “way too polished” for his taste. Kurt did not really like Nevermind but all his fans did. Although it’s overplayed, I still recommend this cd.
In 1992, Nirvana released Insecticide. This cd was just unreleased songs and recorded songs from the “Bleach” era. but still had some goodies like “Sliver” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QECJ9pCyhns&pp=ygUNI25pcnZhbmFjdXJzZQ%3D%3D And my favorite is “Big Long Now” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=273w2H_9kMM . It is a good, slow, heavy song which some people say is something about an alien encounter because of some of their lyrics like “She’s not turning green” or “Why can’t I hear?” anyways this cd released in December 14, 1992 and it sold 500,000 despite its lack of promotion and people not paying as much attention to it until the “sliver” music video came out and that’s when it got some attention or some just never knew it existed but although a good cd I recommend too.
And in January 1993 nirvana recorded a song called “Seasons in the sun” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heIog9Rv7Qw this song is beautiful and calming with some lovely high notes. And now we enter february 1993 where Nirvana was going to give another good hit with their 3rd or 4th (If you count Insecticide) cd called “In Utero” it was released on September 21, 1993.
This cd gives a greater insight into the heart of the band as well as a deep dive into the mind; this is Kurt's way of expressing emotion in this project. This cd sold over 15 million worldwide. This cd goes to Kurt's mental problems he had (we will get to more) and goes through many things like being sick and death. Some songs you might enjoy from this cd are “Heart Shaped box” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6P0SitRwy8 also “All Apologies” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba_08WWIWV8 and for these songs they are most known in the cd but still goodies and my favs.
In November 18, 1993, Nirvana got invited by MTV to do an unplugged concert and the term unplugged means acoustic. The songs were absolutely beautiful like “Where Did You Sleep Last Night.” This song is beautiful. It was a cover song the original was from Lead Belly. Kurt sang it so beautifully to the point where I got goosebumps. I recommend this cover song. It's absolutely beautiful!
Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Live On ... - YouTube
The cd was released on November 1, 1994 and absolutely beautiful and soothing. Another song I recommend is “The Man Who Sold the World.” This song is beautiful like the rest. It's another cover song originally recorded by David Bowie. I like this cover because like I said it’s beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fregObNcHC8 This cd sold over 5 million copies worldwide. If I like it you will like it, too.
Unfortunately on April 5, 1994, Kurt Cobain was found dead at his Seattle home with a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head with a suicide note by him. He was found three days later on April 8, 1994. As I said Unplugged was released on November 1. That was 7 months after his death. Nirvana is legendary in this generation. People still listen to their music all the time. Kurt Cobain will never be forgotten, and he will inspire us everyday.

Q: What school do you like to go against in volleyball?
A: Stephens because they're our biggest rival.
Q: Out of all the away games you and your team went to, what school was the best?
A: Walker was best because the girls and team train all year. They practice more than we do.
Q:If volleyball wasn’t a sport would you still coach a sport? If so, then what sport?
A: I would lead a volleyball club, because volleyball is a very big part of Waldo.
Q: What school did you least like going against?
A: Whiteaker is my least favorite because of the history. We haven't had a good history.
Q: What is team culture like?
A: I feel like we have a good passion. If we have drama the players don't focus on it. They communicate. Our culture is healthy and passionate.
Q: What is the hardest thing about your team?
A: Just getting them out of their heads is the hardest part.
By Samantha Martin
Q: How long ago did you start learning about food science?
A: Ten years ago. I started watching a diet documentary. I never really cared much about diets, because I never had a problem with being overweight. But it made me think about how foods affect your body and health.
Q: What is that green smoothie you drink all the time in class?
A: It is a combination of spinach, kale, arugula, kiwi, pineapple, turmeric, black pepper, and a green superfood powder. Sometimes I like to add cilantro though.
Q: What foods do you like to eat as well?
A: Whole foods. When I go grocery shopping, ninety percent of my food comes from the fruits and vegetables section. I eat organic meat as well. I also like whole grains, rice, and quinoa. I eat a lot of raw foods on top of that.
Q: Do you have anyone else in your life who diets like you?
A: No, not really. I have friends who are into nutrition, but they break their own nutritional rules based on their lifestyle.
Q: Do you like other smoothies, too?
A: No. Well, I mean, long ago I used to be really into smoothies. I used to make a smoothie with peaches, almond butter, and cardamom. It was really good.
Q: So, how has eating healthy affected your life as well?
A: First of all, I think it’s helped maintain a healthy body weight. It gives me high energy levels. Also, it makes me feel healthy, which is really good as well.
Q: Does eating healthy affect your teaching at all?
A: Absolutely. Having a healthy diet helps you sustain your mood, I can deal with crazier classes. I have higher energy levels, which makes me feel like I can last longer throughout the day. I coach in the mornings, go through a day of teaching, go to games, then go home and work out. I still have the energy for all of that without feeling so drained.
Q: Would you recommend they serve better food at lunch?
A: Yes. I am so highly opposed to the stuff they serve at lunch. They need something more fresh.

During a recent visit to Waldo Middle School, Natalie Pate of Oregon Public Broadcasting shared with students that a career in journalism was not always her dream. She focused on performing when she was a teenager in Colorado, and when she started at Willamette University she had a career related to international development in mind. As she approached graduation, her calling in communications came into focus.
“I found it very hard to get people to care about what was going on in the world if they didn’t know what was going on in the first place,” Pate said, adding that an internship with the Statesman Journal provided her an opportunity to help build those communication bridges.
It was not all smooth sailing for Pate when she started at Salem’s daily newspaper, but she stuck with it to find out what she might enjoy about this new career path.
“My first time in a newsroom was overwhelming,” she said.
Eight years later, she has now learned the ropes and developed new techniques for gathering information. As a reporter for Oregon Public Broadcasting during this past year, she now uses microphones and audio editing equipment in addition to her keyboard for relaying stories. Some of the work that she is most proud of, such as reporting about education for prisoners in Oregon, has also been her most difficult. She tries to find hope for her audience because she believes that sustaining hope is important.
“When you lead someone into darkness,” she said, “you have to pull them out of it at the end.”
Whether reporting about serious issues such as school budget woes or lighter topics such as teachers moonlighting as comedians, Pate always focuses on getting the details down correctly and distilling what is important from the “firehose of information” that reporters contend with daily. While being perfect is impossible for anyone, Pate strives to double-check facts with all of her sources and provide her listeners or readers with top-rate journalism each and everyday.
“Your job,” she said, “is in many ways your reputation.”

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is an ongoing American superhero comic book series featuring the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man as its title character and main protagonist. Being in the mainstream continuity of the franchise, it was the character's first title, launching seven months after his introduction in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy.
The series began publication with a March 1963 cover date and has been published nearly continuously to date over six volumes with only one significant interruption. Issues of the title currently feature an issue number within its sixth volume, as well as a "legacy" number reflecting the issue's overall number across all Amazing Spider-Man volumes. The title reached 900 issues in 2022.
His weakness is Ethyl Chloride pesticide which dulls his reflexes, speed and spider-sense. But he has been shown to be quite resistant to it. He's not superhumanly durable but he does handle injuries better than regular/peak humans . Spiderman is eighteen years old. Some facts are: His favorite food is his Aunt May's cherry pie. Peter Parker is a huge fan of everything that comes out of Aunt May's kitchen, but his absolute favorite has to be her cherry pie. Thank goodness he didn't inherit a spider's taste for insects along with its powers!
An inner “spider-sense” allows him a high degree of awareness of impending danger and to gauge not only its level of threat to him personally, but also the general direction of its approach. Combined with his unique fighting style, this sense grants Spider-Man an edge in his battles that often defies logic. His worst enemy is The Green Goblin.
Spider-Man was relaunched in 2009. In Spider-Man #2, it is revealed that the spider-villain Morlun killed off the original Spider-Boy and used his portal device to traverse alternate realities Meanwhile, the human kid becomes more uncomfortable with Neytiri's hatred of humans and the fact that she killed his biological father. The one aspect of Spider's life that Avatar 2 never touches on, though, is the identity of his mother..
Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko. Spiderman first appeared in the anthology comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 in the Silver Age of Comic Books.
In my opinion “The Amazing Spiderman” is a good movie series to watch because the way he is bitten and how he recreates being a spider but in a human form and how he can climb on walls and shoot spiderwebs, and how he moves is quite cool. My favorite part about this movie is how there are different universes and how each Peter Parker is different and has their own talents.

Aubrey Drake Graham, known by the name of Drake, is a great music artist from Toronto, Canada. He was born on October 24th, 1986. He was inspired by the artists Jay-Z, Usher, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Kanye West and others. He started his music career in 2006 with his first mixtape released on February 14 2006, “room for improvement”. But his first actual song was “replacement girl” which was released on April 30 2007, but it didn’t make the billboard charts.
Drake's first hit song was “best i ever had''. Drake's top album at the moment is his new album “for all the dogs. Some of his top songs at the moment are “jimmy cooks (feat. 21 savage)” , “virginia beach”.
I like Drake because his songs are relatable and I just think his music is really good and interesting. Some songs I would recommend, "summers over interlude" “teenage fever” “do not disturb” “trust issues” "practice". I like his songs because they are relatable in many ways.

My favorite thing to do on a nice long day without school is to go get on my PS5 and play some God of War, so when the new one came out you know I had to get it.
I really like how they forecast on Atraes Age, and I love how when you start the game it goes right into action. I love how it really goes into depth with the details and the lore of the previous God of War games, but I feel like the Thor they made is super realistic.
It is a game that I can get on forever. It is so entertaining and it is just a good game. The boss fights are very leveled and evenly matched. But it gets harder the longer you play. P3 if I had to give it a star rating it would be 4.5 stars. because the cut scenes are a little too long. If they were a little shorter it would be 5 stars.
I like the look of the game, and I feel like it goes into depth with the lore of the game and the whole ter. but I also really love how they did the realms between realms. I see how they created the final battle at Ragnarok. OK, this is a warning to those that have not played. At the end, Thor refuses to kill him so Oden kills Thor.
I like how the final battle against Oden is very fair. This is one of the longest games I have played. Click on this link for God of War Ragnarok to learn more.

The dark night filled with creatures to scare you
Out on the streets going to each house to surprise you, BOO!
The black cats roaming the road
A vampire awakening out of its coffin with blood
Drip, drip, spill
A pack of wolves howling at the full moon on a hill
Wicked witches ready to come out of their houses
When they see children come out in thousands
Hopping on their brooms to steal candy from kids
Yet that’s not even the worst part the night brings
when you come out and say “trick or treat!”
You hear “No candy for you to eat.”
