Ms. Brenda Cherry

Welcome!

Ms. Brenda Cherry has been part of Salisbury High School since 2016. She is a Kutztown University of Pennsylvania graduate, earning a Bachelor's Degree in History, Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology (focus in Archaeology), and a Masters Degree in Secondary Education. She holds a teaching certificate for both Spanish and History.

Profesora Cherry, or Profe. for short as her students call her, currently teaches Spanish I, Spanish III, Spanish IV, and Spanish V. She is fully bilingual in Spanish and English, being born and raised in Puerto Rico. Profe enjoys teaching the culture - customs, music, foods, history, festivals, etc - of Latin American countries as well as teaching the value of learning the 2nd most spoken language in the world. Learning another language fortifies our relationship with other cultures and lets us learn and respect other ways of life. Language is an important part of a culture, and through it Profe empowers students to explore the Hispanic world.

Moreover, Profe believes that students learn by doing, not memorizing. Although a new language requires a certain amount of rules that need to be understood, the best way to learn it is by applying what is being learned. Through the use of repetition, skits, projects, visual aids, dynamic activities, different topics, and applying students' interests, students actively learn Spanish in Profe's classroom.

¡Bienvenidos!

Brenda Cherry ha sido parte de la escuela superior de Salisbury desde el 2016. Ella se graduó de la Universidad de Kutztown de Pensilvania con un bachillerato en historia y otro en antropología (concentración en arqueología), y una maestría en educación secundaria. Ella está certificada para enseñar español e historia.

La profesora Cherry, o Profe. como le llaman sus estudiantes, actualmente enseña las clases de español I, español III, español IV, y español V. Ella es una persona bilingüe (en el inglés y español) y nació y creció en Puerto Rico. Profe. le gusta enseñar los aspectos de la cultura latinoamericana - las costumbres, la música, comida, historia, festivales, etc. A la misma vez, le interesa enseñar el valor de aprender el 2ndo idioma más hablado del mundo. Aprender un idioma nuevo fortalece nuestra relación con otras culturas y nos deja aprender y respetar otras perspectivas. El idioma es una parte muy importante de una cultura y a través de ésto, la Profe. Cherry motiva a sus estudiantes a explorar el mundo hispano.

Mas aún, Profe. cree que sus estudiantes aprenden haciendo, no memorizando. Aunque un idioma nuevo requiere una cierta cantidad de reglas que se necesitan aprender, ella piensa que la mejor manera de aprenderlo es aplicándolo en la clase. Usando la repetición, actuaciones cortas, creaciones visuales, incorporando los intereses de los estudiantes y usando actividades dinámicas, Profe entiende que así sus estudiantes aprenderán el español activamente.
