Jack Klein eyed a top 5 spot on the team and was in the shape to be there when the season kicked off. A brutal ankle roll at the Campus Invite sidelined him for a few weeks. In his first serious effort post injury, Jack found himself in the lead of Friday's Reserve race, only giving up two spots in the final kilometer as his ankle took a roll at 4k. He has his eyes on climbing back to varsity and is a role model for overcoming adversity.
Gavin Bast has PR'd 4 times this season. In the Varsity race at Jackson, he finished in 17:00.60 not only to shave another 22 seconds off of his PR but also to finish as the fifth and final scorer for the varsity team. That's a big deal for any runner, but even more impressive for a freshman!
While we always aim to be the top team as our A goal, there were still lots of impressive runs over the 2 days at Jackson this week. Notably, sophomore Wes Rogan ran his first career sub 16. Many more to come! Of the 30 who ran this weekend, 14 runners set lifetime bests, and another 4 set season bests. Time to keep the ball rolling as we head to the second half of the season!
