SHS Writing Center

Welcome!

At the SHS Writing Center, we believe that EVERYONE is a writer. Everyone has a story or a message to share, and your words matter to us. Our mission is to promote positive change and growth within our community through writing. Regardless of proficiency or skill,  YOU are welcome here. Our Writing Center consultants are equity-driven and eager to offer you quality feedback on your writing--and it doesn't have to be an assignment for a class. Bring us your essays and your lab reports as well as your poems, short stories, and college essays. We want to read it all!

There are TWO ways you can reach us: through our ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM or an IN-PERSON VISIT to the Writing Center. Read more below!

Join the Writing Center!

For the Writing Center to function, it needs a team of highly-motivated, equity-minded, self-directed, conscientious, and collaborative individuals who are passionate about writing. If this sounds like you, and you are a current sophomore or junior, consider applying to be a consultant in the Writing Center during the 2025-2026 school year (application below). Working in the Writing Center for a trimester is the equivalent of half an English credit. Applications are due by Thursday, December 19 at 11:59 p.m. Please let Ms. Clark (clarkma@salineschools.org) or Mrs. Denzin (denzinj@salineschools.org) know if you have any questions!

ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM

Submit your writing online and receive feedback via email within 48 hours!

Submit a draft for online review using the Online Submission Form (below). Please follow the directions in the form to ensure that we have the ability to comment on your document.

One of our consultants will email you with feedback within two school days. Please plan accordingly!

IN-PERSON VISIT

Meet with a Writing Center consultant in-person and receive instant feedback!

Stop by the Writing Center during any hour of the school day (we are open during lunch as well). Writing Center consultants will answer any questions you have and/or review a piece of writing with you. If your teacher requests it, we can send you back to class with a stamped pass to validate your visit.

There is no need to sign up for an appointment ahead of time, but please be patient if our consultants are busy helping other students. Come see us. We love visitors!

Feedback Form

At the conclusion of your visit to the Writing Center or after you receive online feedback, please fill out the Feedback Form (below). We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we're doing!

Our Mission

The SHS Writing Center mission is to promote positive change and growth in writing skills throughout our community, regardless of current proficiency or experience.
