Turn it In Integration: What does this mean overall?
- The site turnitin.com and onCampus have a new relationship and share data back and forth with one another
- onCampus alone can create classes, identify students in those sections, and create assignments on behalf of Turn it In
- Users can use single sign on (SSO) -- what's that? you simply click "sign in with google" and the system will know if you are a teacher or student based on your email address
- We (OET) can now offer much more support for students coming in to the office with questions
*Also new: additional support for activities in a foreign language
What does this integration mean for teachers?
- Things are so much easier! Teachers have the option to only log into oncampus and create/grade assignments
- Teachers have the option of grading in turnitin.com and having those grades automatically transfer over to the oncampus gradebook
- Teachers can view all data/similarity reports within the onCampus submission area that you have used previously
- You simply have to click "turn it in" in lieu of 1/2 file submission via assignments
What does this mean for students?
- Things are so much easier! Students only have to log into oncampus and submit assignments in one place!
- Students no longer have to go on a scavenger hunt to add on course codes or submit in two places… and please don’t ask them to!
- In theory, students do not have to log into turnitin.com making things so much quicker for submissions
- Students still have the possibility to submit .docx, .pdf, ,doc, etc. etc. - onCampus accepts all formats
What we have learned throughout the first cycle:
- We need to monitor our limits of users (expire previous accounts or personal emails from students)
- Turnitin "locks in" due dates for submissions (ex: students w/ extended time & an oral agreement to submit after the posted due date) cannot. Suggestion: create the assignment for those specific students w/ extended time. *Here is how to create an assignment for a specific student
- Turnitin does not merge previous classes or assignments. Be sure to create everything via ON.
We hope to offer a “workshop” of sorts next week during Flex for anyone with questions of past or future work with Turn it In and its integration with onCampus. Stay tuned for details, but for now you can preview student/teacher experiences posted here.
