Here's the lowdown on 7th grade English:
Email is the most convenient way to communicate; I am available for conferences—in person or by phone—Monday - Friday between 7:45-8:10 and 2:55-3:15. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, if your child has questions, needs extra help, etc., the best time to see me is during study hall.

Seventh grade literature will center on plot, characterization, theme, and point of view; there will be a strong emphasis on building critical thinking and analytical skills with every text that we cover.
Texts: Prentice Hall and Holt Literature
Genres will include short stories, nonfiction articles, poetry, and novels
Novels: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton; The Giver by Lois Lowry
Assignments: story/chapter notes, critical thinking activities, journals, formal/informal responses to literature, projects, tests on selected texts
Vocabulary from texts will be tested on when we finish a story or unit
Grammar will focus on the fundamentals (parts of speech, phrases, clauses, sentence structure, and punctuation)
Formal writing assignments will include creative/descriptive writing, responses to literature, persuasive, narrative, poetry, and an Expert Project (research)
Assignments & Tests: Quill.org, journaling; root word assignments and tests are given weekly
