Hello, and welcome to my class.
This is my 35th year in education as a teacher and coach. My entire career has been here at Andrew Lewis Middle School, after having graduated in 1983, from Radford University. I also attended Ferrum College (back when it was a two-year college) and spent one year at Roanoke College. I have been married since 1984.
I have coached every sport here at Lewis, except for volleyball and football, and am currently assistant coach for the boys' basketball team, as well as being the head coach of Wolverine Baseball. In 1984 I started Salem City Schools' first athletic training/sports medicine program, after having been a college and professional athletic trainer (1982 California Angels). Feeling myself fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time several times in my life, I have enjoyed a state basketball championship, a national lacrosse title and a professional baseball championship (Northwest League with the Angels). I am living proof that sports can have a positive influence on a person's life.
In my spare time (which is very rare that I have any) I am a history geek, concentrating in American military history, the Napoleonic Era and the Roman Empires. I spent twenty-five years as a Civil War re-enactor, starting as a lowly Private and retiring from the hobby as Colonel and Chief-of-Staff of Longstreet's Corps. Raising hosta in my garden, hiking and playing with my granddaughters round out my joys in life.
One of the best decisions I ever made was to come to Andrew Lewis, so many years ago. Despite what some people think, no, I did not know General Lewis personally!!! I look forward to continuing to impact young lives, including yours. Go Wolverines !
