A New Way To Start Class !!!

Effective with the start of 2nd semester (January 28th) you will be able to sign up to use your speaking talent, to gain extra credit, periodically, after we copy our Daily Assignments. This is a chance to develop/explore your public speaking skills. Bell Ringers will take on the new title of "Daily Journals" and will be available on Google Classroom, just like always, only now, we will not all do them at the same time. They will still be due on Fridays, and will be collected.

In place of Bell Ringer writing time, you are invited to take a chance to speak to your classmates and teacher/s, in an INSPIRED and MOTIVATIONAL way. You will need to read and understand the rules, as stated, below. A three-minute timer will be set for the speaker of the day (in each of my classes). How long and how effectively you speak, will determine how much extra credit you get.

Don't Drop The Mic ! Rules

• Address the class with the intention of motivating us. Say things that will build up, not tear down.
• Three minutes. maximum.
• Sign up with Coach G, to see how soon you"take the stage."
• Reminder: We are part of a public school system. Political topics, religious topics, public controversies, etc. are not appropriate for our setting. Be able to tell Coach G, when you sign up to speak, what your topic will be. Again, the idea is to speak to all of us, about being positive, not in a griping sort of way. There are other times and places, to talk about things like that. Think about the times your teachers have tried to give you "pep talks" , motivational moments and life lessons. These are the "build us up" moments that will make us reflect and cause us to want to be better at what we do. These kinds of topics are very much like the "VISION CHASERS" videos I have been sharing with you, by Dr. MARVIN BYRD.
• Practice ahead of time. It is rare to find a young person, who already has that adult-like "gift of gab" , which allows them to talk easily to audiences, like you will in future years.
• Depending on how well your "speech" or motivational talk is delivered, you will receive between 2 and 4 points of extra credit.
• You may speak NO MORE OFTEN THAN ONCE PER MONTH.
• Sign ups will be first-come-first-served in each class.
• It is OK to feel butterflies, but DO NOT TALK YOURSELF OUT OF TRYING, JUST BECAUSE OF HOW SOMEONE MIGHT REACT or WHAT SOMEONE MIGHT THINK. Remember, even your most talkative teachers were once completely INEXPERIENCED at one point in their lives. Yes, even Coach G!
• EVERYONE will listen attentively, while you take the stage.
• Get eye contact with your whole classroom, when you start talking. TRUST ME, YOU WILL RELAX IF YOU DO!
• Think about the talent you've been keeping inside of you. IT WANTS OUT!!!
• YOU - YES, YOU, MIGHT BE THE REASON SOMEONE ELSE BECOMES A GREAT PUBLIC SPEAKER!!! Be someone's HERO.
