Brainspotting may help you heal
Something may have been bothering you for months, years, or even your whole life and you feel like you should be “over it” already. You read books or scroll through mental health Tiktoks to make some sense of it, but you don't get relief.
We all know what we "should" do... but the deeper part of our brain, our core brain is sometimes "stuck" with a memory or experience.
This experience or memory may keep your core brain "activated" around the issue even though your "thinking" part of the brain knows to make sense of it. Brainspotting therapy is a special approach that focuses on bypassing the "thinking" part of our brain, to access the deeper emotional and body-based parts of the brain.
Brainspotting can help people who...
Struggle with anxiety, depression, or the impacts of trauma
Are going through grief or loss
Are experiencing a breakup or divorce
Have anxiety about performances (ie. presentations, sports events, stage fright)
Simply don’t feel good about where they are at in their lives.
What happens in a Brainspotting therapy session?
Because we aren't using the "thinking" brain too much in Brainspotting, there isn’t as much talking as you'd expect in therapy. Instead, you use your eyes.
The eyes are connected to the part of the brain that accesses feelings, which is connected to the body-based parts of the brain.
I'll help you find a “brain spot” using a pointer. Then you will report the emotions or body sensations that come up when you think about what's bothering you.
I may use tools like music to enhance the process too. You’ll be asked to focus your eyes on that specific brain spot. This allows your brain and body to do what it wants or needs while focusing on the brain spot. All you have to do is notice what's happening.
Depending on what you’re working on and how complex it is, you'll feel less activation over time, have more clarity, and finally start to feel better.
Your brain knows what to do to heal itself, and there’s nothing more powerful than the healing that comes from within, from you.
TLDR: When we experience something negative or traumatic, the connections in our brains are impacted and change the way we function.
Brainspotting therapy will help you access your own healing process,
to rewire your brain connections, heal emotional wounds that used to take over your mind. This process allows for new ways of thinking, more insight, and a new way of showing up in the world.
