EDI Requirements
An Advance Ship Notice (ASN) is an electronic notification to provide detailed information about a pending delivery of goods. The message includes complete information about the shipment and its contents. The goal of the ASN is to provide shipment information to our receiving operations well in advance of the delivery.
The ASN must be on time, accurate, and valid. The ASN should be transmitted at least 24-hours prior to a shipment expected to arrive to prevent a non-compliance expense offset fee.
Each ASN transaction set must have a unique Bill of Lading (BOL) and Shipment Identification (BSN-02).
Consolidated Shipments going to directly to the Distribution Center (DC) must be consolidated into one ASN by DC.
The ASN should not be consolidated for Direct-to-store shipments as the ASN should indicate the specific store number as the destination (N1-ST Ship-To).
Each SSCC-18 included on the ASN transaction must be unique to each carton and follow industry standards. Labels must be affixed accordingly to ensure ASN data will be used. Do not duplicate carton IDs as it will cause the ASN to fail.
