Service Hours Information

St. Sebastian School’s Service Hours Informational Sheet-2023-24

"There are many people who spend their lives in this way, in the service of others. … When you forget yourself and think of others, this is love! And with the washing of the feet the Lord teaches us to be servants, and above all, servants as He was a servant to us, for every one of us." –Pope Francis

Each trimester every 5th through 8th student will be required to complete 5 hours of service. Please be aware that any work done by students in their own homes does NOT count as service. Also, students CANNOT count fundraising activities for service hours.  Participation in extracurricular activities (the school play, volleyball, basketball, forensics, track, etc) isn’t part of service either.

For each trimester, each student will fill out a form and turn in to his/her homeroom teacher. Here's a link to the PDF copy of the Tri. 3 form: Tri. 3 Service Hours Form.

One section is for recording the service activities, the dates on which they were completed, and the number of hours for each. A parent will need to sign the form to verify that the student completed the service hours. ** If there is no parent signature, the student will not earn credit for completing the service hours.

The other part of the form is a reflection on one service activity from that trimester. Students will answer these questions based on that one activity:

1) Which Catholic Social Teaching theme does your activity relate to? Catholic Social Teaching Themes Notes

2) How does your activity relate to the theme?

3) What part of this activity was the most challenging for you? Why?

NOTE: Students’ completion of both parts of the form (with parent signature) and handing in the form will be reflected in the religion section of the report card.

The due dates for the form are:

Trimester 1 Tuesday, November 14th, 2023

Trimester 2 Tuesday, February 27th, 2024

Trimester 3 Friday, May 24th, 2024   [Here's the link to the PDF of the form for Tri. 3 Tri. 3 Service Hours Form]
