Visual Art Curriculum Standards K-4

· Strand I- Historical, Cultural, Social & Religious

A- Identify and describe various visual art forms.

B- Identify and describe art from various times and places.

C- Discuss the influence of art in history, culture & religion.

D- Learn about and understand various reasons why people create various types of art.

E- Learn how visual art contribute to other historical periods.

· Strand II- Creative Expression & Communication

A- Create a work of art exploring/using various materials, tools, media, techniques & processes.

B- Use art elements and principles (art tools) to help resolve composition.

C- Apply personal meaning/expression in a work of art.

D- Create quality work through personal integrity, peer and teacher feedback, drafts and revision.

· Strand III-Analyzing & Responding

A- Identify visual features & characteristics in a work of art.

B- Comprehend how and why a work of art was/is created.

C- Critique art through class and peer discussion.

· Strand IV-Valuing the Arts and Aesthetic Reflection

A- Discuss and reflect the meaning and value of a work of art.

B- Develop and create an opinion and view on a work of art.

Visual Art Curriculum Standards 5-8

· Strand I- Historical, Cultural, Social & Religious

A- Identify and describe distinctive characteristics of various historical, cultural and religious art forms.

B- Create personal artwork that reflects historical, cultural and religious art forms.

C- Discuss historical, cultural and religious influences on contemporary art.

D- Discuss and relate works of art to the appropriate time period, art movement, etc.

· Strand II- Creative Expression & Communication

A- Create a work of art using proper technique when using various materials, tools, media, techniques & processes.

B- Create quality two and three dimensional art.

C- Understand the purpose and intent of various techniques and mediums.

D- Use technology to help aid in the discussion and creation of art.

E- Make and support sound artistic decisions both technically and personally.

A- Compare, contrast and analyze visual features & characteristics in works of art.
