"So You're a Feminist, Now What?"
Chanel Tanner, the speaker, shared three specific ideas of feminism in her book, Feminist AF, during her talk. Her ideas about dating while feminist, have sex free from patriarchal guilt, and feminist friendship codes were very interesting and I enjoyed them. For dating while being feminist, she mentioned dating without an end in mind, let go of gender roles, and understanding that everyone has agency. I loved her idea of dating without an end in mind because I tend to do this and will try to be more aware of it now. In her slide about sex free from patriarchal guilt, she mentioned that we need to be more vocal about what we want, be aware of the social constructs in sex, and realize that the best feminist sex is with ourselves. And finally, in her feminist friendship code, she listed rules that are very helpful. I really related with her Rule #7: We should hold each other accountable for being the best version of ourselves. With this, she explained her idea of a "home girl intervention", which is when you lovingly and privately call "in" (instead of call out), your friends. I think I will definitely use this tool in the future. Overall, I loved this talk and will be purchasing her book soon!
