This 2020 crowd-funded television drama may be better suited to older children (grades 5 and above). It beautifully and realistically depicts Christ and his original followers--including Mary Magdalene, whom scripture describes as a woman healed of many demons, and Peter who proclaimed himself "a sinful man." The Chosen takes liberties to provide a believable backstory to each of Christ's followers, inspiring the imagination and bringing the Gospel and all its challenges to life. While some of the episodes may be too intense for young children, episode 3 of season 1 depicts Jesus with little kids. This episode alone is worth subscribing to the entire series. It will warm the hearts of parents, preschoolers, and older kids alike. Parental pre-viewing for each episode is advised.
Adventures in Odyssey Club: Adventures in Odyssey Membership
Adventures in Odyssey, created by Focus on the Family "presents original audio stories borough to life by actors who make you feel like part of the experience. These fictional, character-building dramas are created by an award-winning team that uses storytelling to teach lasting truths."
This club includes a membership fee, but it is well worth it with over 900 stories available. My kids love the drama and comedy of it, and I love the Biblical truths these stories teach. They are entertaining, engaging, funny, and poignant--perfect for the whole family.
Pureflix.com: Excellent resource for family-friendly, faith-based, character-building, inspiring & entertaining movies. Highly recommended as an alternative to Netflix.
BishopSheenToday.com: A compilation of the life's work of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979). A 2-time Emmy Award winner for Most Outstanding Television Personality, Archbishop Sheen was known for his preaching and his work in radio and television. Funny, charismatic, faithful, poignant, and highly relevant for our present times, this life-changing body of work will be a blessing to countless families.

For movie reviews from a Catholic moral perspective, this is a very helpful, thought-provoking, and well-balanced resource in assessing the appropriateness of popular movie content for the family.
A series of episodes in which two children and their robot friend travel back to Biblical times. The Bible stories are informative, entertaining and teach life lessons. Appropriate for all ages, although some stories (i.e. The Passion and Revelation) may be too intense for very young children. Find it on Amazon Prime.
My top three favorite children's Bibles:
The Bible App for Kids (available as an interactive game for iPhone users)
The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name by Sally Lloyd Jones & Jago
The Action Bible: God's Redemptive Story by Sergio Cariello.
The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz), (see also our Jan. 5, 2020 blog post, “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth”)
An incredible website with engaging resources for Catholic parents who want to teach their children the faith in love. Includes a daily podcast for kids, an online shop with varied resources, a blog, and much more.
The life-changing resources offered by Direction for Our Times are a must-see. Founded by Kathryn Ann Clarke in 2004, DFOT began with mystical writings (messages from Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and various other saints) published under the pseudonym “Anne, a lay apostle.” They are all available for download from the DFOT free online library. Since then, DFOT has expanded to include multiple programs designed to promote health, wholeness and holiness in individuals and in the church.
