The government in Sweden, a parliamentary democracy, allows the people of Sweden to have public power. With this, the people of Sweden have become the basic foundation of the Swedish government.
The Swedish government has a parliament, or Riksdag, made up of 349 members. Each member of the Riksdag is voted directly into the board by a direct election held every 4 years. As there are not many rules to serve in the Riksdag, you must be 18 or older as well as a citizen of Sweden. The Riksdag is Sweden's main representative forum. As the Riksdag is responsible for making all decisions, it is not their job to finalize them, it's the governments.
In Sweden, the speaker of the Riksdag has the important job of proposing a prime minister. However, the whole Riksdag has to vote on this new prime minister. The prime minister then has the very important job of making up the government. The prime minister then has to choose the ministers they want in their cabinet. From there the prime minister decides which people are in charge of various things. Together, the Riksdag, cabinet, and prime minister make up the government.
The current prime minister of Sweden is Ulf Kirstersson, part of the Moderate party. He has led Sweden's 3 party government since October 18th, 2022. When voted as prime minister, he vowed to set the country onto a new direction on immigration, as well as criminal justice and energy policy. He has given more rights to police officers as crime in Sweden over the last few years has been very bad. As Kirstersson already has a lot on his plate he wants to do, he wants to also lower the immigration rate in the country as he believes it is harming the country as a whole.
