Dr Bailey moved to the US from England in January 2023 to be closer to family. Dr Bailey lives in Fairfax with his wife, Julia, son, Henry, and daughter, Violet. Having a family has deepened Dr Bailey's interest in working with Elementary and Middle School children.
Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies with Dr Bailey.
We will learn lots about the ancient world this year. We will begin with early humans and end with the Roman Empire.
We will use this wide selection of case studies to explore three keys themes:
Humans and the Environment
How have humans managed the natural world? Were their attempts to find security successful?
The Ordering of Human Difference
How have humans negotiated differences in wealth and status? Have wealthy people always controlled the
political system?
Legacy
How have humans used art and architecture to make a mark on history?
We have a lot to cover so come to class ready to learn. When in doubt, follow the Golden Rule.
Participation
For each student I will publish a weekly participation score based on the information found in the table below. A high score means excellent participation. A low score means improvements are required. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions about your participation score.
No homework this week.
