We learned:
how to tighten the bow and rosin. Always remember to loosen your bow when you are putting it away.
how to hold the violin, keeping the scroll between eye and nose level. Currently, we are holding the heel of our left hand against the side of the violin to assist in keeping a good position.
how to play pizzicato - plucking the violin. The thumb of your right hand rests against the side of the fingerboard, about 1 inch from the end. extending your index finger over the strings, pluck the string. The index finger plucks about 2.5 inches from the end of the fingerboard.

Students supply their own violin. I STRONGLY recommend renting from a reputable music store. If you prefer to purchase please read this. If you are using a hand me down, you need to take it to a luthier for adjustments prior to our first music class for adjustments.
