Our youngest learners are nurtured in a rich, engaging environment that cultivates curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. As a result, SAA preschool students enter kindergarten not only prepared but also advanced and eager to embrace new academic challenges.

This strong foundation is guided by a dedicated faculty whose experience and passion set our school apart. With an average of 16 years in the classroom, our teachers bring both expertise and heart to their craft, ensuring each student is known, supported, and challenged to grow.

At SAA, education extends far beyond the basics. In addition to a strong emphasis on reading, writing, and mathematics, students engage deeply in social studies, develop sophisticated writing skills, and are formed in a vibrant Christian faith. A well-rounded curriculum—enriched by Physical Education, Art, Music, and Spanish—ensures that every child is developed academically, creatively, physically, and spiritually.

CHRIST-CENTERED EDUCATION

While all schools teach reading, writing, and arithmetic, Saint Andrew Academy offers something far greater—a strong academic foundation rooted in Christ. Faith is not simply a subject we teach; it is the lens through which we live, learn, and grow together as a community.

Each day begins and ends in prayer, grounding our students in gratitude and purpose. Every Thursday, we gather as one body to celebrate Mass, where our students are not passive participants, but active leaders. From choir and lectors to altar servers, ushers, and gift bearers, every student plays a meaningful role in the liturgy. Through these experiences, we do more than teach about faith—we form young disciples of Christ.

A hallmark of our Catholic identity is the way our HOUSE Program integrates faith into daily life. HOUSE competitions and activities are intentionally centered on the liturgical year, bringing to life celebrations such as All Saints’ Month, Advent, Catholic Schools Week, and Lent. Each week, designated HOUSE groups lead the music and ensure all liturgical roles are thoughtfully prepared, fostering ownership, reverence, and community.

In addition, we are blessed to offer monthly, grade-level retreats in partnership with our parish at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Held on the first Friday of each month, these retreats provide students with meaningful opportunities for reflection, growth, and deeper encounter with their faith. Each grade explores a carefully chosen, age-appropriate theme:

At the heart of Saint Andrew Academy is our signature HOUSE Program—a defining experience that shapes both the culture and character of our school. Designed for students in grades 3–8, HOUSE meets twice weekly and serves as a dynamic space where community, service, and 21st-century learning come to life.

Students are placed in a HOUSE where they remain throughout their years at the Academy, guided by a consistent faculty advisor. This continuity fosters meaningful relationships, mentorship, and a strong sense of belonging. Our program is thoughtfully structured into Little HOUSE (grades 3–5) and Big HOUSE (grades 6–8), ensuring age-appropriate leadership and engagement opportunities. In Big HOUSE, students may further develop their leadership skills by running for Student Council, taking an active role in organizing competitions and events.

Service is a cornerstone of the HOUSE experience. Each month, students rotate through essential roles that support the life of the school and parish—assisting with Mass, caring for the church, supporting cafeteria operations, and leading music in the liturgy. Through these responsibilities, students learn the value of stewardship, accountability, and joyful service.

Equally important is the program’s integration of faith and forward-thinking skills. HOUSE activities are rooted in Catholic identity while intentionally cultivating collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. From designing All Saints’ Month displays and Stations of the Cross, to showcasing their HOUSE saint through creative projects, to participating in talent shows and spirited competitions like Capture the Flag and Four Square—students are constantly engaged, challenged, and inspired.

FIELD TRIPS

Field trips at Saint Andrew Academy are far more than a break from routine—they are vibrant extensions of the classroom where learning comes to life. Blessed to be in the rich and dynamic Louisville area, our students have access to an incredible array of educational and cultural experiences.

From hands-on exploration at the Louisville Science Center and encounters with wildlife at the Louisville Zoo, to stepping into history at the Kentucky Derby Museum and the Waverly Hills Sanatorium, each trip is thoughtfully designed to deepen understanding and spark curiosity. Students also enjoy unique experiences such as visiting Huber Family Farm and Winery, exploring Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, attending a game at Louisville Slugger Field, engaging in interactive fun at Topgolf Louisville, and encountering exotic animals at Wilstem Wildlife Park. Faith remains central as well, with visits to sacred spaces like the Cathedral of the Assumption and St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.

Each grade-level pod participates in at least two field trips annually, ensuring consistent opportunities for experiential learning. Beyond academics, our vibrant HOUSE system adds an exciting incentive—students in the winning HOUSE earn a celebratory field trip as a reward for their dedication, teamwork, and spirit throughout the year. We also honor our 8th-grade students with a special end-of-year trip, celebrating their journey and accomplishments as they prepare for the next chapter.

FUN AND MEMORIES

At Saint Andrew Academy, one of the most meaningful compliments we receive is simple yet profound: “SAA feels like a family.” And like any strong family, we believe in creating traditions, celebrating together, and building memories that last a lifetime. Throughout the year, our school comes alive during four signature celebration weeks—each filled with joy, creativity, and a deep sense of community: Homecoming Week, Christmas Week, Catholic Schools Week, and Derby Week.

HOMECOMING WEEK is a beloved SAA tradition and the heartbeat of our fall season. The highlight? A spirited Powder Puff Flag Football game, where our middle school girls take the field while our middle school boys step into the role of cheerleaders—creating an unforgettable, joy-filled experience. The week has grown into a full celebration, including a Homecoming Dance, a family Bonfire Night with food trucks, and a beautiful Mass at St. Peter the Apostle followed by a festive parade back to campus. The evening culminates in a shared carry-in dinner and a night under the lights—where laughter, school spirit, and family bonds take center stage.

As Christmas approaches, CHRISTMAS WEEK brings warmth and wonder to our halls. Students enjoy festive dress-down days and cherished traditions such as hot cocoa, Christmas movie celebrations, a Santa Shop, and even the occasional surprise visit from a mischievous elf. It is a joyful time that captures the spirit of the season and the excitement of anticipation.

Each January, we proudly join schools across the nation in celebrating National Catholic Educational Association Catholic Schools Week—a vibrant, mission-centered celebration of faith and learning. The week begins with Mass at St. Peter the Apostle and continues with themed days honoring the Church, community, nation, teachers, students, and vocations. Highlights include our Open House and Celebration of Saint Andrew Academy, meaningful service projects, special recognition for our faculty, and student award ceremonies. It is a powerful reminder of who we are and why we do what we do.

And in true Kentucky fashion, we proudly embrace DERBY WEEK, celebrating the rich tradition of the Kentucky Derby with our own SAA flair. Students participate in a festive parade, balloon races, hat competitions, and even “rat races,” culminating in our signature wooden horse derby. This spirited celebration connects our students to the culture and heritage of our community in a fun and memorable way.

At Saint Andrew Academy, these weeks are more than events—they are experiences that unite our community, celebrate our identity, and create the moments our students will carry with them for years to come.

Saint Andrew Academy proudly competes in the Catholic School Athletic Association, offering a dynamic and comprehensive athletic program that fosters teamwork, discipline, and school spirit. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports, including girls’ volleyball, cross country, boys and girls basketball, Little Jags basketball, cheerleading, track, and archery.

Through these programs, student-athletes are not only challenged to excel competitively, but are also formed in character, leadership, and perseverance—both on and off the field.

At Saint Andrew Academy, the performing arts take center stage as a vibrant expression of creativity, confidence, and faith. Each year, students are invited to participate in two theatrical productions and a dynamic summer theatre camp—experiences that inspire imagination and cultivate a love for the arts.

Fittingly, our theatre program is named in honor of Saint Genesius, the patron saint of actors. Under his patronage, our students bring stories to life through two full-scale productions—one in the fall and one in the spring. These performances feature a rich blend of Christian-themed works and adaptations of classic literature, offering both meaningful messages and artistic challenge.

Open to all students in grades 3–8, the St. Genesius Theatre Program provides an inclusive and supportive environment where every child has the opportunity to shine. Rehearsals are held after school, allowing students to grow in collaboration, discipline, and stage presence while balancing their academic commitments.

At Saint Andrew Academy, theatre is more than performance—it is formation. Through the arts, our students discover their voice, build confidence, and learn to tell stories that inspire, uplift, and reflect the beauty of truth.
