Saint Andrew Academy participates in the National School Lunch Program and follows all federal and state regulations regarding school nutrition programs. Nutritious lunches are available to students each school day. Families are encouraged to participate in the meal program and complete all required forms annually.

MEAL ACCOUNTS AND PAYMENT PROCEDURES

Families are responsible for maintaining a positive balance in their student's meal account. Lunch is available daily through Saint Andrew Academy's participation in the National School Lunch Program and is currently priced at $3.75 per meal. In addition, Saint Andrew Academy offers breakfast items for purchase at a cost of $1.00 per item.

Payments may be made through FACTS or by submitting payment to the school office, where a receipt will be issued. To ensure proper accounting procedures and accurate recordkeeping, payments should not be given directly to cafeteria staff. Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor meal account balances regularly. Account balance information is available through FACTS, and families will receive notifications when balances become low or delinquent.

In accordance with USDA guidelines, students will not be denied a reimbursable meal due to an unpaid meal balance. However, Saint Andrew Academy reserves the right to implement collection procedures for outstanding balances in accordance with school policy. Families are expected to maintain current account balances and respond promptly to notifications regarding unpaid meal charges.

In addition to school meals, students may purchase USDA-approved Smart Snacks, including items such as ice cream, cookies, chips, and other approved snack products. Smart Snacks are available for purchase at a cost of $1.00 per item and must be paid for through the student's meal account. Students with a negative meal account balance will not be permitted to purchase Smart Snacks until their account has been brought into good standing.

Families are expected to maintain a sufficient balance in their student's meal account. If a meal account balance falls below negative $25.00, students may be restricted from participating in certain extracurricular activities, field trips, school-sponsored events, and other non-academic activities until the account balance has been addressed. All meal account balances must be paid in full by the conclusion of the school year. Any outstanding balances remain the parent or guardian's responsibility and may affect registration, records requests, participation in school activities, or enrollment for the following school year until resolved.

OUTSIDE FOOD AND FAST FOOD

To promote a positive and equitable cafeteria environment, support healthy eating habits, and maintain compliance with school nutrition guidelines, students should not bring fast food meals into the school cafeteria during the school day. Fast food meals can create distractions, lead to inequities among students, and undermine participation in the school's meal program.  Saint Andrew Academy participates in the National School Lunch Program and is committed to providing nutritious meal options for all students. Families are encouraged to utilize the school's lunch program or send a nutritious lunch from home. Exceptions may be made for documented medical needs, approved school activities, or circumstances authorized by the administration. This includes carbonated beverages, energy drinks, and coffees.

Parents and guardians who choose to bring lunch to their child during the school day should provide a lunch that is comparable to a traditional packed lunch rather than restaurant or fast food meals. The administration reserves the right to address individual situations as necessary to maintain a positive learning and dining environment for all students.

ADULT MEALS AND PARENT LUNCH

At Saint Andrew Academy, we welcome and encourage parents and guardians to join their children for lunch. To ensure adequate meal preparation and a smooth lunch service, we ask that families notify the school office in advance by calling (502) 935-4578 if they plan to attend lunch.  For the safety and security of our students, all visitors must sign in through the school office and complete the school's Visitor Log. Parents and guardians must also be listed on the student's approved Pick-Up and Visitor List before being permitted to visit during the school day.

To maintain a positive and equitable cafeteria environment and to support the school's nutrition program, fast food and restaurant meals may not be brought into the school during lunch periods, including by visiting parents and guardians. Families are encouraged to purchase a school meal or bring a packed lunch that complies with school guidelines.

Adult lunches are available for purchase at a cost of $5.50 per meal. In accordance with program regulations, payment is expected for all adult meals, preferably before or at the time of service.  Parents may purchase meals through their student's lunch account or pay directly through the school office.

CAFETERIA EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to demonstrate proper manners and respectful behavior while eating in the cafeteria. This includes using appropriate table manners, maintaining respectful conversation, cleaning up after themselves, and treating cafeteria staff and fellow students with courtesy and respect.

As part of Saint Andrew Academy's commitment to service, responsibility, and community stewardship, students in the 3rd–5th Grade Lunch and Middle School Lunch periods will participate in cafeteria clean-up responsibilities. Each day, students will be assigned based on their HOUSE affiliation to assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the cafeteria. Responsibilities may include wiping down tables, sweeping the cafeteria floor, and helping ensure that the dining area is left clean and welcoming for others. Students are expected to complete these duties responsibly and take pride in caring for their school community through service to others.

ADDITIONAL CAFETERIA PROCEDURES

• To promote a safe, orderly, and enjoyable dining environment, students are expected to follow all cafeteria procedures and directions provided by cafeteria staff, teachers, and lunch monitors. Failure to follow cafeteria expectations may result in lunch detention or other

• appropriate disciplinary consequences.

• Students will be assigned to a designated lunch table. In certain situations, the administration or cafeteria staff may assign specific seats to students. Students are expected to remain at their assigned table and may not move to another table without permission.

• For safety and efficiency, students must remain seated throughout the lunch period unless given permission by a staff member. Cafeteria monitors will circulate throughout the cafeteria with trash receptacles, allowing students to dispose of food and other waste while remaining seated.

• All food, beverages, utensils, and personal items brought to school should remain with the student who brought them. Throwing, sliding, passing, or otherwise transferring food or items across tables is prohibited.

• To protect the health and safety of all students, food sharing is not permitted. Many students have food allergies, dietary restrictions, sensitivities, or medical conditions that may not be readily apparent to others. Additionally, sharing food increases the risk of spreading germs

• and illness. Students are expected to consume only the food and beverages provided by the school or packed by their own family.

• Students are expected to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and self-control during lunch by using appropriate voice levels, following directions promptly, maintaining cleanliness in their eating area, and treating others with kindness and courtesy. The cafeteria is an extension of the classroom and should reflect the values and expectations of the Saint Andrew Academy community.
