Civics Exam

In 2015, the Arizona legislature passed the American Civics Act. This bill requires students, beginning with the graduating class of 2017, to pass a civics test based on the US Immigration and Naturalization civics questions. Students are required to score 60% or higher in order to graduate from high school. The test is 100 questions. Students may retake the test as many times as necessary to pass.

Testing dates for the Civics Exam happen in November, February, and May. Students who have not yet taken or have not passed the Civics Exam will receive passes to test in the library during their designated time.

CPR Requirement

Beginning July 1, 2019, Sahuarita Unified School District shall provide high school students with training sessions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The CPR training mandate (A.R.S. 15-718.01) is a graduation requirement and completion will be tracked on the student's official high school transcript. Cohort 2020 and future cohorts must complete the CPR requirement. Here are the ways a student may complete the CPR training:

1. Get it done in class - A student taking a PE type class (Weights, Adv Weights, Boys PE, Girls PE, Girls Weights, Adv Team Sports, Adv PE, Sports Conditioning, Dance, Marching Band, Creative Movement) or Sports Medicine will automatically receive the required training while taking the class. It is part of the curriculum. Summer school PE also provides this training. OPTION 1 IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO COVID-19 PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

2. CPR Certification - A student with current or expired CPR certification through Scouts, work, JTED, or an outside clinic may bring proof of certification to our registrar to meet this graduation requirement. Our registrar is Dawna Berry. She can be found in the front office in the Counseling Department. Her email dawna.berry@sahuarita.net Here is an opportunity for an online CPR/AED Certification course available for a $20 fee: https://www.icpri.com/.

3. CPR Clinic - All students may complete this requirement by visiting CPR Virtual Training Course for the CPR instructional video and quiz. Students must pass the quiz with a 60% or better to earn completion for this graduation requirement. Make sure you've disabled your pop-up blockers before opening the page with the Training Course. The quiz will NOT show if you do not allow pop-ups.
