Masterclass Series is now live!!
Phil has over 35 years of experience in music production, recording, mixing and mastering in Europe and Australia. His early years saw collaborations with the “Who’s Who” of European Jazz with artists such as Daniel Humair, Joachim Kuhn, Paco Serry, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, Thierry Eliez, Jean-Marc Jafet, … In the ‘90s, he spearheaded France’s Neo-Metal scene, producing albums and touring Europe as FOH engineer with Watcha (FR), The SemiToneS (BE), P.M.T. (CH), Gumchewa (FR), Out Loud (FR), … he was also one of ASP's regular mastering engineers. Having moved to Australia in 2006, he has worked with Pete Murray, Jeff Martin, Tex Perkins, Tony Romeril, Aditya Kalyanpur, Marshall Okell.
In 2014, Phil embarked on a 5-year mission to push the boundaries of No-Input-Mixer music, a genre which uses feedback loops generated inside the console; no external signals used at all. The output of this PhD research was over 10 episodes of educational videos, documenting the various progress, and a final musical piece using 46 automated feedback loops, performed on SAE Byron Bay’s SSL Duality SE. For those of you who do not wish to watch all 3h40min+ (I’ve heard it’s great for insomnia, though), you can watch the final episode with 11-min live performance, here:
In this masterclass, Philippe (aka Phil aka The Chambinator) will provide insight into areas which complement SAE's curriculum - producing a live stage recording right from pre-production to mastering. This workshop will provide a step by step approach to planning a live band production from recording to mastering, with various examples of how to address the identified issues along the way. Experience a real life example of a project that follows the same process, looking back on how Phil achieved a fantastic outcome for the client. Learn from the master himself, who has over 3 decades of experience in producing, recording, mixing and mastering some of the best sounds between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz across Europe and Australia.
Note to participants: Please ensure that you use high-quality headphones or speakers so you are able to listen critically to the finer details of the audio stream.
