Zoom F8 Recorder
TA3 to XLR Male Cables
10m XLR (x1 for single channel, x2 for two channels).
NOTE: Phantom power can blow up equipment
Turn off phantom power before plugging in.
1. CHANNEL NUMBER: Decide if you will send 1 or 2 channels of audio to camera.
2. URSA AUDIO SETTINGS - LEFT SIDE OF CAMERA UNDER THE SCREEN:
Ensure 48V phantom power is 'OFF'.
Switch to ‘LINE’ for line level
If only sending one channel of audio to camera, plug a top mic into input 2 ('MIC' level and 48V 'ON').
In the Ursa audio menu, ensure you have chosen the XLR inputs as your audio inputs and not the monaural mic or stereo internal mic.
3. CONNECT TA3 CABLE/S TO ZOOM F8 OUTPUT:
TA3 connector
4. CONNECT 10m XLR: Connect your XLR extension cable/s to the end of the short TA3-XLR cable you just plugged into the zoom.
5. CONNECT XLR TO CAMERA: Connect your XLR/s to the audio input/s of the Ursa (on top behind the handle).
6. SET INPUT SOURCE & LEVELS ON THE URSA:
Press ‘Menu’, 'AUDIO', on the Ursa to bring up the audio menu.
Under 'RECORDED CHANNEL 1 SOURCE' select 'XLR1 - Line'.
Under 'RECORDED CHANNEL 2 SOURCE' select 'XLR2 - Line' (for a 2nd zoom channel), or 'XLR2 - Mic' (for a top mic), or 'Camera - Mono' (for the internal mic).
NOTE: The line/mic switch on the left side of the zoom (step 2 above) determines whether the menu says 'XLR1 - Line' or 'XLR1 - Mic'.
Adjust the audio level sliders to '100%' for all zoom inputs (normally we would send tone to the camera but the Ursa has a strange line level so you will always run at 100% for the zoom inputs). For top mic or internal mic input, choose a safe level that won't distort as there is no 'auto' level.
7. PAN YOUR INPUTS ON THE ZOOM:
If you are running two channels of audio to the camera, you will need to pan your microphones to send them down either channel.
Press the ‘PFL’ button for the channel you want to adjust, scroll down and select 'Pan', set the panning to 'L100' for output 1, or 'R100' for output 2.
