Notes on Dialogue/ VO Recording
These notes are meant to guide you as a producer to help the talent create more engaging and realistic performances when recording voice-overs. Try them out and have fun.
Determine the audience in as much detail as possible (age, gender, mood, where they are when looking for or engaging with your product) (Use pictures and props)
Determine who are as the speaker, narrator or character in detail. (Use pictures and props)
Determine the desired feeling you want to create from your listener.Â
Performance Steps
4a. Read script plainly and score key words, tone and inflections.
4b. Recite script as fast as possible (to energize the tone) and then determine best pace.
4c. Project more for a formal tone
4d. Experiment with light, deep or breathy tones
4e. Experiment with over-articulating the words
4f. Stretch, push and pull sentences to create dynamics in phrasing
4g. Loop record each sentence two or three times and exergerate tone and energy for each pass
4h. Use body movements & props
