Eng 1B/1B Assignments & Grades/Formative Assessments
Formative assessments (FAs) are designed to support student understanding and reflection on their learning while measuring concept mastery.
This includes the:
First learning statement, which is the baseline of student knowledge
The working portfolio, which is shared with the students’ Saddleback email through Google Drive
Midterm, which includes a midterm learning statement (Learning Statement II), vocabulary exam, and other mid semester measurements
Final exam, which includes the final course portfolio, final learning statement (Learning Statement III), and other end of semester measurements.
While learning statements are largely reflective in nature and designed to boost student grades, they are part of the midterm and final exam measurements, so learning statements should not be used to critique the course, content, or instructor and should never make statements about not learning anything.
