Etiquette Requesting a Letter of Recommendation or Transcript
Always start with an in-person conversation when asking for a letter of recommendation. Be polite and respectful — remember, teachers, coaches, and counselors are doing you a favor.
If an in-person conversation isn't possible, a well-formatted and polite email is acceptable.
Allow at least two weeks for a letter of recommendation or transcript to be completed. This means all necessary materials (such as your brag sheet) must be submitted beforehand.
Don’t forget to say "Thank you"!
You are encouraged to use the brag sheets to help recommenders write a strong, personalized letter.
