Mark your calendars! On Thursday, September 18th, Homestead will be hosting Arts Under the Lights! After the success of Read Under the Lights last year, SACS has decided to introduce this new and fun way to celebrate the creativity, community, and power of the fine arts.
This year's event truly offers something for everyone: food trucks, guided tours of HHS, bounce houses, hands-on "make and take" art activities, clay throwing, and even live glassblowing demonstartions.
The evening will feature two stages with a rotating lineup of live performances by SACS students from choirs, jazz bands, and dance culminating in a show-stopping finale by the Homestead Spartan Alliance Band. For the full schedule of performances, visit our webpage using the link below. We hope you will join us for this special SACS celebration of the arts!
Survival of the Spartans
This Year's Survival of the Spartans will take place on September 23rd at 6pm on the Homestead band turf.
In this grade-level competition, teams will compete in a series of seven games to determine which team from each class reigns as the best of Homestead’s Spartans. Survival of the Spartans will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, on the band practice turf. The seven games that teams will play include Tug of war, Three-legged race, Water balloon throw, Water bucket relay, Cornhole, Frisbee golf, and an Egg Relay Race.
To enter, you need to form a team of 5 boys and 5 girls from the same grade. This event is open to all grade levels. The entry fee is $10 per person ($100 per team).
If you would like to form a team, please pick up a packet from Señor Peeper’s classroom – Room A1027. Packets must be returned to Señor Peeper by 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. You only need to pick up one packet per team, and the team captain should hand in everything at the same time for the whole team. Incomplete packets will not be accepted, and we cannot accept late entries.
Clubs!
We want to take a moment to encourage all Spartans not already involved in an extra or co-curricular activity to find a group to participate in. Joining a high school club is a great way to enhance both academic and personal development. Clubs provide an opportunity to make friends with similar interests, a place to do something you feel good about, and a way to make school something more than just a place to go to class. For students planning on going on to college after graduation, sustained and meaningful club participation, which means joining a club that pairs well with your future plans and then sticking with that club throughout your high school career, is something very beneficial to include in university applications. Club, team, and performance group participation fosters personal growth, social skills, and community involvement, all of which prepare students for any type of future endeavor. Click here to view Homestead’s list of extra and co-curricular activities. If you have an idea for a club that we do not currently offer, please email Assistant Principal Jen Bay (jbay@sacs.k12.in.us) to learn more about starting a new club at Homestead.
