What is Johnny Appleseed Festival (JA)?
A Pioneer Period Festival featuring hundreds of craft & food booths located at Fort Wayne’s Johnny Appleseed Park.
What does the Band / Colorguard do at JA?
Make and Sell Homemade Chicken and Dumplings cooked onsite, over an open fire & served by the friendly faces of our band / band parents dressed in authentic pioneer style costumes.
Fun Facts
Homestead Band has the largest booth at the festival AND most of the money raised is from the community.
Last year we made 78 kettles of Chicken and Dumplings. That equals 4,446 Quarts and we SOLD OUT both days!
Parents and students hand prep almost 1,000 lbs. of veggies: 500 lbs. carrots, 150 bunches of celery, and 300 lbs. onions
We make 1,900 lbs. of dough.
What it takes to make it happen!
Every student is required to work AT LEAST 1 shift. Some work more than 1!
Every family is also required to volunteer. With 330 volunteer shifts to fill, it works out to 1.5 parents volunteering per family.
Festival is broken down into many different shifts. Within those shifts, there will be:
Servers, Order Takers, Dumpling Rollers, Cooks, Dishwashers, Fire Tenders
Why and What does this fundraiser do for the band & our students?
Largest fundraiser for the band each season
The Homecoming Dance is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at HHS. It’s a formal dance and is open only to Homestead students. Students can start buying tickets during all lunches Monday, Sept. 8, for $15. Prices increase to $20 on the night of the dance. We can't wait to see everyone there!
Homecoming week this year is September 22-26th. Every year during Homecoming week Homestead has Spirit Week! Spirit Week is a very fun way to have the whole school dress up and show their school spirit. Every Spirit Week there is a raffle held during each lunch, and the more you dress up the bigger chance you have of winning! Mark your calendars and be sure to participate this year and represent our Spartans!
This is a reminder to ALL HHS students to check your e-mail every day. Teachers use e-mail to provide essential information to students, so keep up with them. Additionally, if students receive an early dismissal they will get an email from the Attendance office that says when to leave.
Travel Opportunity
Do you like to travel? Would you like to explore beautiful cities and experience new cultures? Join us on our trip to Japan in the spring of 2026 or Ecuador in Summer 2026!
We’re excited to travel to Japan with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. The trip is open to all Homestead students. We will visit Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto, and Osaka with stops at temples, shrines, and parks. We will even ride a bullet train and visit the deer park in Nara where the deer bow to visitors. Our hope is to see the magnificent cherry blossoms in full bloom during our spring break visit.
Use the link below to go to our enrollment page and see the full itinerary. For more information, please contact Mrs. Brown at kbrown@sacs.k12.in.us or Mrs. Lyne at hlyne@sacs.k12.in.us.
Mrs. Busch is leading the trip to Ecuador June 2026! We will visit the equatorial line, the Devil's Cauldron waterfall, hike the Baños rainforest, go whitewater rafting, participate in a traditional Amazon night, and try samples at a local chocolate tour just to name a few highlights! Please contact Mrs. Busch at mbusch@sacs.k12.in.us to sign up or ask any questions. Check out www.eftours.com/2889964EV for the enrollment link with itinerary.
Reminders to Those Who Drive!!
We want to take this opportunity to remind our families and young drivers to follow all traffic laws when driving to and from the high school during arrival and dismissal times. Drivers who are northbound on Homestead Road and are waiting to turn left onto Indiana Meadows Drive, near the SACS Central Office, are reminded they must yield to oncoming traffic when turning into our campus. That intersection is not to be treated as a three-way stop. Students are reminded that they must have an HHS Parking Pass hanging in their car to park on our campus. No students should be parking at Summit Middle School or the baseball field parking lots. All students must enter and exit through Door 1. Authorized students can park in the two lots near door 34, or in the environmental center parking lot. The small lot by Door 33 is reserved for guests, employees, and substitute teachers. Please use the Spartan Roundabout to drop students off and pick them up at Door 1 before and after school. Any student arriving late or leaving during the day will check in and out of the high school at our attendance office, located just inside Door 1, around the corner from Door 45 on the Spartan Roundabout.
Yearbook Distribution!
Students who were unable to pick their 2024-2025 yearbooks up, please contact Mr. Manco (dmanco@students.sacs.k12.in.us) to make arrangements. 2025 graduates, if you have not picked your yearbook up yet, please be sure to email Mr. Manco about it as well.
Thursday, September 18th Homestead will be having flu shots in the Grey Box at 8:00 a.m. for those who already signed up through Super Shots. Students will receive a pass during the day for their scheduled time. Parents were able to sign up at registration and currently sign ups are closed.
Picture Retake Day
Those of you who do not have a picture in PowerSchool will be getting a pass to go to the Gray Box on Thursday, Sept. 4. All other students may go to retake day during Study Hall if they need a new picture. Ask your teacher for a pass.
