Announcements and Updates

Hello Spartans!

Below you will find important information regarding announcements from SACS and Homestead. This will also include updates related to the construction project. Students can access daily announcements with the announcements page here.

Semiformal 2022

Homestead's student government will be hosting Semiformal on Saturday, November 19th from 7-10 p.m. All grade levels are welcome to attend, but there will be no guests allowed from other schools. Tickets for the "Northern Lights" themed dance went on sale for $20 during all lunches on Monday, October 31st and will be available until the 18th. The price increases to $25 if you wait to purchase tickets on November 19th. On the night of the dance, students are to bring their Homestead IDs and enter through the new Door 1 entrance. The dance will then take place in the HHS Cafeteria. We hope to see you there!

School Board Forum

Homestead High School’s Student Government hosted the School Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6 p.m. in HHS’ Community Room. All five candidates running for SACS School Board’s two open seats were present.

For those who were unable to attend, HHS Media students broadcasted the Candidate Forum LIVE and the event will remain up on YouTube through election day. You can find the event here: https://youtu.be/KqNRDQZ2UM8

School Board Voting

On November 8th, voters will be asked to vote for two open at large seats. On SACS’ website (click here), the five candidates vying for these positions are listed and their names are linked to their individual campaign websites/Facebook pages. SACS has also included a link to www.VOTE411.org where candidates provided a brief biography and answered questions.

SACS Referendum

Lastly, please be reminded that the November 8 ballot will also include the question concerning the renewal of our operating referendum. The request to renew our referendum will be the first question on your ballot when you go to vote. Information about the referendum renewal can be found on the SACS website by clicking on the Referendum tab on the top left of the page, or by clicking here.

Since 1985, SACS has been operating with the assistance of an operating referendum. The current referendum supported in 2009 and again by 75% of voters in 2016, is 100% used for salaries and benefits of personnel. The referendum renewal will allow us to retain 43 teachers and add 14 teachers, continue to provide smaller class sizes and sustain outstanding programming, as well as add 2 school police officers, 7 guidance counselors, 1 social worker and two central office personnel. The referendum is intended to retain and attract talent to SACS.

Parking & Drop off/Pickup Reminders

As Homestead construction continues, things such as student drop-off and pick-up change. One of the changes for the 2022-23 school year is the requirement that our families use the Door 1 drop-off and pick-up turnaround.

In the mornings, we have found that the Spartan Turnaround (see map to the right) works quite well, and parents get through in less than 5 minutes (not including time on Homestead Road).

Parent Drop off/Pickup Map

In the afternoons, parents should go through this same Turnaround for student pick-up. Unfortunately, some of our neighboring businesses are seeing an uptick in afternoon parking (during after school pick-up). We kindly ask that you do not park in the lots of our neighboring businesses. Whether it be all day or for just 30 minutes to pick up your student from school, there should be no parking at the fire station, Saint Elizabeth Church, or Summit.

Not only does this after-school parking impede our neighbors from utilizing their own lots for their patrons, it causes some unsafe conditions when students cross the streets at non-crosswalk locations.

So, please, use the Homestead Turnaround (entering off of Homestead Road) to drop off and pick up your student. Thank you.

Final Exam Attendance Policy Reminder - HHS Handbook Page 28

First Semester Exams will be given on December 20th, 21st, and 22nd. Students are expected to be in attendance on these days to take their final exams. Students may NOT be parent excused on final exam days. Any student who is absent during final exams will be considered unexcused and will receive a zero on their final assessment. (exams/projects/papers/etc.)

Students are expected to be present in school the entire day during final exams.

A student who is required to give a presentation prior to a final exam day for a final grade, must be in attendance for the scheduled final exam day for that class in order to receive credit. This rule is necessary so that students who are scheduled to give their presentations last have the same experience presenting to an audience and receiving their feedback as the first students to present experienced.
