Academic Eligibility

In order to remain academically eligible to compete in athletics, students must be passing FIVE of their seven classes.

By IHSAA rule, an “I” (incomplete) is considered a failing grade when determining eligibility. Grade checks are made after 9 weeks and at the semester. Any student-athlete who has not passed FIVE (5) credits on the following date(s) at 4:00 p.m., will be declared ineligible for the remainder of the next grading period.

End of Grading Period Dates: March 15th and May 29th

Boys basketball

The sectional for boys basketball was over the last week of February, and the boys fought hard. They beat Huntington North on the first night of the tournament! They beat a tough Colombia City team 58 to 45, a team they had previously lost to earlier in the regular season! They moved on to the sectional championship on the Saturday and lost to a strong Wayne Generals team. Aiden Good reflects positively on the season, remembering how even after a loss the team would come together the next day ready to get better and get a win the following game. This team battled injury throughout the season, and Aiden's favorite moment of the season was when senior Will Jamison returned for his first game back and scored right away. He is proud of the way the entire team worked hard this year and kept the final goal in mind. This team is going to work hard in the off season to come back stronger next year. Congratulations boys on persevering through hardship and making it a good season!

Hockey

The hockey team is a club sport at Homestead that had major success at the beginning of March! For the first time in 15 years, the hockey team won the state title! They went into the state playoffs with the mindset that this was the last chance this group was going to get to play together, so they were going to leave it all out there for each other. Senior Christopher Adasczik says that this is one of the closest-knit teams that he has ever had the chance to play for. This club sport does not come without its challenges, however. Because the Homestead hockey team is only recognized as a club sport, the players have to figure out transportation for themselves, commonly driving themselves to games almost every weekend. When they're not playing games, the players practice over at Sport One Icehouse. Overall, the team had a good finish to the season and are happy with the way their season went. Congratulations on winning the state title!
