Hi 2nd Graders!
We are almost to the end of the school year! This week I want to talk about summer reading. It's very important to keep working on your reading skills and continue to read as much as you can. Hopefully the public libraries will open soon. In the meantime use the helpful links on my site to find free ebooks.
This week's assignment is really for the whole summer. I would like you to create a summer reading poster. Here's how:

This Sunday May 10th is Mother's Day so I thought it would be fun to read about what one boy wanted to do for his mom ont Mother's Day.
With adult supervision and permission, try making something special for mom for breakfast on Mother's Day. Email me a list of what you will make. Have lots of fun! Happy Mother's Day Moms!
Hi Second Graders!
We are heading into week 5 of distance learning! Although we are apart, I still feel like we can continue to connect through books. This week we will learn about Fantasy books. Fantasies contain things that COULD NOT happen in real life. They may have magic, mythical beings (unicorns, ogres, dragons) , or talking animals. Harry Potter books and movies are fantasies!
One of my FAVORITE fantasy books-really one of my FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME!-is a story called The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. It is written by William Joyce, who was inspired by his love of books, by The Wizard of Oz and by Hurricane Katrina. An AMAZING short film was made of this story and is available on YouTube.
This book/movie demonstrates the importance of reading by paying a beautiful tribute to physical books. Also inspired by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz and love of books, "Morris Lessmore" is a humorous story about people who dedicate their lives to books and books that return this favor. The video has NO DIALOGUE (talking), but tells this amazing story. Watch and enjoy!
What parts of the film remind you of The Wizard of Oz? Email me your comments. lcronin@sachem.edu
Hi Second Graders!
The weeks are going by quickly and I miss you more and more! Reach out to me and let me know if you like the books and send me pictures of any activities you do. I will put your pictures on my Waverly Library Twitter site! (if you say it's ok)
This week's fiction and non-fiction pairing has to do with friendship and how to treat friends. I hope you like it!
Big Smiles :)

Hi Mrs. Delee's Class, Mrs. Trentowski's Class, and Mrs. Springer's Class!
This week I chose these books for you from Bookflix. Diary of a Spider is a fiction book and A Spiderling Grows Up is non-fiction. I miss all of you very much but while we are apart watch and listen to these books and think about what makes each book fiction or non-fiction.

Week 2 Assignment
Hi Second Graders!
I hope you are all well and staying safe at home.
April is Poetry Month so I thought we'd try reading some fun poetry.
I like to read poetry. It can be silly and fun. Try it. :)
Read: Visit former Children’s Poet Laureate Kenn
Nesbitt’s amazing website Poetry4Kids and choose
some poems to read. There is so much to explore in
this site! If your parents agree, have them film you
reading your favorite poem and email it to me.
Or just write your own short, 4 line poem and email it to me.
