Grades – Members must have and maintain an 85% average in all art classes, as well as an 82% unweighted cumulative average.
Participation in Art classes – To be eligible to apply for membership, students must be enrolled in grade 10, 11, or 12 at Sachem North, and have completed at least two classes in the Art Department, or be currently enrolled in his/her second class in the Art Department.
Meetings – Meetings are held once a month, during 9th period, in room H-109.
Attendance policy – If a member or new applicant misses 2 meetings, he/she will be placed on probation and a letter stating the missed meetings will be mailed home. If a member/applicant on probation misses a 3rd meeting, he/she will be dismissed from the group. Legal absences will not be held against the student, and students must provide proof of such. Examples include when students are legally absent from school (proof = letter from parent/guardian, absence will be verified on e-school), early dismissal for doctor appointment or other extenuating circumstance (proof = letter from parent/guardian), extra help in a class (proof = signed, official pass or email from teacher whose extra help was attended). Sports are not a legal absence, as sports begin after 9th period.
Dues – Yearly membership dues are $5, which should be turned in at the general meeting after new applications are accepted (usually the 2nd or 3rd meeting of the year). Students may pay with cash or check, made out to Sachem North (please write NAHS Dues in the memo).
Activity – Members must participate actively in our meetings, events, fundraisers, service experiences, etc., even during such time when there are no visual arts on their class schedules, in order to remain in good standing until graduation.
Service hours – Students must complete a specified number of service hours, per school year, in the area of visual arts. A “school year” for our service purposes is defined as the period of time between August 1st and May 31st of the following calendar year. It is preferable for students to complete their service hours between September and April. At least half of the hours/points must be completed by participating in our club’s sponsored service-related activities. Seniors who have not completed their required service prior to May 31st (extended deadline for seniors) risk being dismissed from the group, and not graduating with the Art Honor Society designation.
